my bowles mauve is now 4 years old and still going strong.. i dead head as soon as hte flowers have gone half way up the stem.. i cut back a bit each year down to the thrid bud up.. to stop getting woody. and then i use them as cuttings.. i have found between jan and june is best time for these..

i also have a stars and stripe variegated pink/red one.. an apricot one which i love.. it is mixed apricot pink and orange.. gorgeous.. these not so tough as bowles one thou.. so take cuttings each year..

i also grown my own wallflowers this year instead of buying them.. saved last years seed and i now have loads of plants.. so many i am selling them up top garden in 9cm for 25p each.. going well they are..

cia.. i have load seedling of the native green helebores ones.. if interested.

i have seeded some of the ornamental ones too and they are looking good to they are green also.. as my border is green and white on that side.. so trying to keep it that way.. without much success at the mo.

love the pictures of the hoggies kitekat.. we had one a few years back but not visited for a long time.. think something got him or just moved on.

and we have a badger set somewhere on the cliff or railway line.. have put out food for them and they are getting rather used to us now.. cant relly get a picture as the flash scares the life out of them.. so am looking for other ways to get one.. they are beautiful creatures up close but do make a mess in my garden but wouldnt have it any other way.. it is only back lawn the mess up so not to worried as the kids use it as a play ground anyway.

Last year was terrible as one was left dead on the railway line for months before being moved.. allthe kids could see it as they walked to school no nice.

indeed it is keiths lemon.. even when everything is wilting in the heat and dry.. they keep growing.. but it gives me reason to go out there during that time when not much else to do but dead head.

@joslow.. yeah that is good idea.. but that is what forums are all about.. just as if you were talking in the street to a friend about life in general.

i love the way it goes off topic and then back again.. bit like watching a Billy Connely show..

I have also learnt lots on here about lots of everything.

@mummy muddy paws.. it is ok.. nephew is a fiat engineer said it is all sat in the cat and the the pistons hadto push it out to get compression. so will burn off as use it.. the engine turns over fine timing was out by one tick and the inlet valves were stuck open.. but will say to him about the oil.. drained most of it out until the level was as it should have been.. it was clean good oil not brown or dirty and it had old fuel in tank ( over 4 months old)  anyway so was stale and wouldnt spark the plugs properly.. it is running fine now and just wiating for a new battery then off to MOT. fingers crossed.

but thank you for your advice..
