Do you consider gardening to be like art?

Posted: 10/05/2012 at 11:49

i think it is a form of art.. putting plant together that corodinate in colour and compliment each other... sie and shapes and how you layout your garden.. is all art to a degree.. and being able to stand back and admire your work is the most pleasing part.. just like a fine painting.

only difference is the garden changes colours and shapes and moves and invites you in to have a look all year round..

we have had many more snails and slugs this year than ever before..snails especially.. but i habe couple of thrushes in the garden so they eat them.. i just put them outon the path for them to find.

slugs.. i was told only the brown ones are what eat yor plants.. not the black ones.. i do not know if this is right.

May In Your Garden

@wintersong.. yeah i love ferns..mum got me some at morrisons.. going for £1 each.. so have got them ready to go in.. at the moment i have to clear the small violets as seen on right side of pic under fern.. they have spread like wildfire this year.. love the little flowers and their scent is amazing.

i am really wanting a tree fern.. but told they do not like my garden is ouot the window until the tress and hedges have grown up some more..

yes everything is looking lush and green.. but i need the sun for things to start flowering and opening up..i have one tall iris which as been 2 years in the waiting for the flower.. and it has benin bud for 3 weeks now.. and just starting to pop out.. it is suposed to be peach/apricot and purple colour.. has a huge thick stem.. wil put picture on when it does open.

The wrong kind of birds

Posted: 10/05/2012 at 11:28

yes we get rats.. due to railway line at botom of garden.. so i do not put anything out on floor or table.. as theyget it..saw one once trying to get on bird feeder but gave up.. we use air rifle on them.. (yes we checked we are allowed)as we had influx 2 year ago and they were everywhere.. rat man told us to just use  poison as we had so many.. he came back and fourth for 3 months..but i hat that as you cant find where they go and die.. at least out way we can dispose of them properly.

i know the starling s feed on suet like pigs at a trough.. but the other birds love them too. robins, blackbird.. sparrows, chaffinchs and thrush when scraps drop to ground.. but the seagull hoovers up any mess so not much left for anyone else..
