New piece of land for garden extension

Posted: 03/02/2013 at 11:38
Hi everyone Just purchased a new piece of land to extend my original garden. The land at the moment is grass and weeds with a few bricks on clay soil. what is the best plan of action after all the debre has been shifted to get the most out of the soil? The plot is going to have a pond area, lawn, patio and borders. Any advice will be great to get the most out of this piece of land.

Hi Everyone

Just purchased a  cupressus macrocarpa 'wilma'.  Would like to put in a large planter but unsure what soil/compost to put in the planter.  Also what can i put in the bottom of the planter to give it some weight so it wont blow over in the wind.

Any advice will be great!

Clearing overgrown area

Hi Everyone

Bought a piece of land to make my garden bigger the only problem is it overgrown and full of weeds.  What would you recommend would be the best way to clear it .  Cant get a mini digger there.  The only way i could think of was the hard way with a garden fork, but is there an easier way?

Any ideas will be really useful.

Thanks Marshmellow for the diagrams.  This has given me another avenue to investigate.  Do you recommend any particular shrubs to divide the sections?

Hi everyone

Just in process of purchasing more land to make my garden longer.  The idea is to separate the new part from the old (like rooms) my problem is i dont know what to separate it with.  Needs to be at least 6ft high to give privacy. Looked at trellis but painting it is a pain (already have it in the garden) then thought about a laurel hedge but a friend has said its quite invasive.  So now i dont know what would look the best.

Any design ideas would be great.

CCTV is the best thing it might deter them from your garden.  Gardens are a lot of hard work and is heartbreaking to see people ruining your plot.

Hi Everyone

Can someone help me to stop cats leaving me not so nice presents in my garden.  Is there anything i can mix in with my soil to make it less attractive to them.

Any helpful ideas will be great.
