Spending a penny in the garden - wanting more than just a trickle!

Posted: 30/03/2016 at 13:45

Looking for a site where i can purchase a water feature for garden, a fountain that doesnt dribble ideally one which makes a decent amount of noise..well moderate lets say, ideally one which can be adjusted up and down.

Dont want to build one. Surely to goodness theres a site out there! all the usual haunts, Amazon, argos, b&q etc..for a couple hundred pounds - dont look that great.

Not wanting anything grand, just 2 or 3 or 4 tiered type which fits the bill, elect and / or solar. Delivery UK

Anyone can advise be apprecaited.

Laying slabs on ...well...mud i suppose..certainly clay soil. Standard issue slabs - likely be 2 by 2 .

Quarry dust? throw it down, throw sand down? ..

Dig out some clay soil, and concrete it ( worst case scenerio ).

Any thoughts on decent method to lay these slabs?, throw down sand and hope for best ..

overlapping fence

thanks for replying however everyone is different in what they think is noise, and no-one has suggested an answer to this issue. Annoyance can be the word used - however i want to sit in my garden and not listen to overbearing endless chit-chat.

Anyone with idea re overlapping fence, double skinned with some type of material inside please let me know.

Bamboo v potted tree for privacy.

Evergreen 'tree'

Grows to around 7ft in height, ideally keeps a tidy, thinnish shape.

Crucially, pot-based..a large pot..but still a pot/or wooden 2ft x 2ft container.

Using it to give privacy to garden.

Aware, Bamboo, hedges may be the only option. But i have a ..baytree...i think it is..keeps its silver type leaves..but aware not pot based.

Suggestions PLEASE MORE THAN WELCOME. Any ideas on a quick growing bamboo..happy in a pot? One i have taken years to fill out and still isnt more than 6ft.

water fountain - noise level -

Thanks for your replies and suggestions. Was hoping for a quick fix, someone to point me in direction of a 'shop' which sells an adjustable sound level fountain, mains and /or solar.

- But clearly not the case.

Making one...i dunno...ive made a mess of this garden with my ideas as it most things its the finishing touches which do the job and that can take a skill, using the right tools etc...pumps, electrics etc..nar - i'lll 'have' to pay.

Any suggestions PLEASE let me know. UK based. Usual haunts of Amazon, Argos, B&Q..nothing really hitting the mark.

overlapping fence

I am debating re a gabion wall or a solid - overlapping - fence ( not particularly cheaper than a wall but may look a bit better ). I was thinking, of a overlapping fence, a 3inch gap and then another overlapping fence.

On advice from this site - softer material ..can..deaden sound apparently. So i was then thinking of throwing in the gap not sure what person said - large bark chippings...but surely they will just rot and smell.

Any other material? obviously weatherproof. And...sadly..cost is an issue..bark chippings would of been cheapish along those lines.

Thoughts more than welcome.

a plant for all seasons

Wanting a 6ft - 7ft narrow yet thick tree or shrub which will grow in a large pot - evergreen. Asking too much? Aware hedging, Escala etc may do the trick - wanting to create a bit of a 'wall of trees' for privacy.

Bamboo the way to go - clumps type? - best bamboo which will grow fast?

water fountain - noise level -

Hello, i am looking for a water fountain. One to help extinguish the constant chatter from neighbours. One which can increase/decrease in volume. Ideally solar, plug and / or battery.

Cost wise only talking about £140 or nothing extravagent, happy if its mains as I have an outdoor plug.

Any recommendations please let me know, just checking usual site of B&Q, Amazon etc - a few nice designs but few far between re noise level..most seem like a trickle.

Moving a 6ft bamboo plant..

Hi, a few months back i dug out and moved a large bamboo, growing well, good clump. Where i moved it too unfortunately now has to be moved again.

Before i do this, just asking, keen not for the plant to die - bamboos pretty hardy? ok to move 'spring time' . Any particular soil the moment seems happy enough in mixure of clay/general garden top soil/bit of compost.

I know when i move it, some of the stalks will fall away..ok to pull a few more off perhaps and plant them? take ok?
