SG, no been here for 30 years (but previously in Italy!). I wanted Sunflower as my name on here but it was apparently already taken so I did the next best thing

What veggies are you planning on growing 2013?

I have several packets of vegetable seeds already and a lovely T&M brochure waiting to be looked at but am feeling slightly bewildered by it all. Do any of you feel like that?

Oh Bill, you have had some problems and from the thread I see others have, too, but have offered some really good suggestions for you. Stand back and take your time to think things out and then gradually decide - let's be honest it is not life threatening and will be enjoyable eventually

When I moved into my new home about a year ago there was (was being the operative word) a huge bay tree taking up a lot of space and casting a huge shadow on the flower bed below. I eventually got a chap to come in and remove it but like you he left the huge base and miles of underground roots! With much patience on my part he eventually came back and has dug more or less everything up and made a very big hole. I have dug it over several times removing yards/metres of roots as I did so - satisfying in its way to boot. Am planning on plants with pots in the newly created space and low lying ground cover.

Don't be discouraged as gardening can be fun, is very rewarding and therapeutic

Busy-Lizzie, I hope you still enjoyed your break in England despite all the hiccups on the way. I try to avoid using Ryanair if I can as I think they are a terrible airline - Stansted being my nearest airport makes if difficult however

Woke up at this ungodly house because I heard the heating going on and now realise it was because of the frost thermostat or whatever it is called. Still it does mean I can get up-to-date with my emails etc!

Olive Tree care indoors....losing it leaves- what am I doing wrong?

Rosa, as I said my one is in an unheated outhouse so don't understand why its leaves are dropping. Should it be wrapped in fleece like yours?

dizzy, how strange because I noticed the same thing only yesterday about my olive tree which is in a cool outhouse. I shall be very interested to what replies you get.

Where are you based.....roughly? I am here in Cambridge, UK.

When is gardeners world back on the TV??

Good morning all

Grey cloud cover here in Cambridge so far but I hope the weather is better for the rest of you.

Many thanks for all those tips re programmes. I shall certainly watch A-Z on iplayer  as I hadn't even seen it was on. It will clash in future with Andrew Marr's programme (although the poor man himself is in hospital recovering from a heart attack).

Yes, 8.30 BBC2 is already circled!

Why don't we start a thread where we keep everyone informed of all the recent past and future gardening programmes? Any offers peeps?

Enjoy your day whatever you are doing
