Just had to cancel chap coming tomorrow for some cupboards as starting to feel really grotty. Thumping headache and sinus now - wonderful. And I nearly killed myself the other day moving all the furniture so he could have access to work easily 

Late planting your garlic?

I just hope it helps. I have been kicking myself for weeks for not getting it in but somehow time runs away with itself so I was pleased to get this tip this morning .

Rosa, when you say you put them in the fridge - how? Entire bulb or separated cloves? I'd like to know about that tip, too, as it is quite possible that I shall be in the same position next year

Definitely getting cooler - need to put an extra jumper on.

What we are doing this week

Didn't get into the garden yesterday but had a potter with my plants this morning which I enjoyed. It was a sort of catch-up morning to make some soup, stew some apples and deal with those irritating bits of business before I had time with my plants that I am overwintering in my kitchen which could almost be called a cold frame! Also potted up my very late garlic following a tip I received this morning - have put a new thread in the forum in case it can help others.

Am envious of the cherry tree and hope you managed to get it in today as it has been lovely here in Cambridge. I have inherited two apple, one pear and a plum tree but the fruit was damaged so have put those sticky bands on so hopefully that will inprove the crop.

Is anyone chitting potatoes yet and if so, which ones?

Just popped in for a moment. I was given a tip this morning about my very late garlic which I have now put into practice! Hope it works.

I wasn't sure where to put the info I was given so started a new thread. Some peeps have looked so hopefully it will help them.

Poor Dove is having a rough time at the moment - very kind thoughts to Dove.

Geoff - don't make the house too tidy as it also needs to look lived it 

Getting cooler here in Cambridge with the sun already going down but the days are getting slightly longer very gradually which is good.

Have taken the plastic cover off my T & M catalogue but not ventured any further....yet! I have quite a few seeds over from last year so must go through those first!.

Late planting your garlic?

I am very late in planting my garlic but learnt a tip this morning and would like to pass it on. You can plant the cloves in pots and put them into a greenhouse or coldframe. When the shoots appear plant them out at the first opportunity. I hope this is helpful.

PP, yes I can see why it would have been a building site because if you saw Sliema now it is just continuous line of concrete flats and hotels all the way to St Paul's Bay. Fortunately we did go inland for a bus trip to that wonderful castle - the name escapes me at the moment - and I loved the countryside and the people were more welcoming.

Also, we had a fascinating walk round the Fort outer walls and met delightful people in a local bar who told us their version of what it was like in the war.

I found the actual Maltese language very grating and virtually impossible to understand but then I believe it is made up of five different languages probably from when the island was occupied.

Dove, just been watching the film footage and found it very emotional - what a huge relief that they are all safe and sound as well as for you . My thoughts are with you all and thank you so much for sharing the film.
