Hi everyone don't post very often as everyone is so knowledgable and I learn loads from reading your posts, so thank you all for that.

I think your greenery is Gaultheria shallon (salal) I have used this in flower arranging before. I can only get it from a florist. I did try to take semi ripe cuttings once but sadly without success. It really is lovely and lasts for ages In arrangements. Hope this helps,

Thanks for that Verdun. Many of my delphiniums were 7ft this year, and the plants are huge at the base now. I find bamboo is difficult to get in straight. Will look for steel fabricators in the telephone book. A great idea to make our own, thank you again

Hi everyone, I'm very interested in the plant support chat. Can you tell me please how thick the steel needs to be to give good support to foxgloves and delphiniums. Will somewhere like BQ sell it do you think?

Plum Fruit Moth?

Posted: 01/09/2013 at 19:33

Berghill that is interesting I didn't know about plum sawfly just plum moth,  is the treatment the same for both? have spent the afternoon taking all  the Victoria plums from my tree and disposing of them most  had Red plum maggots in them so all had to go.

Last year a few plums had the maggots so this year I took the precaution of spraying the whole tree as the instructions, applied glue bands and used pheromone traps can't think of any thing else to do. Please has anyone any other ideas?

Will this mean I have to get rid of the tree altogether or might next year be better?

Would be grateful for any help or ideas Thanks GrandmaT

Yes tree peony! I was given one two years ago and although it hasn't flowered yet it has out grown its space already.

I have now dug it up and put it in a large pot as I didn't relise how huge and how very quickly it would get to 4ft high and 4ft wide with multiple stems. (Another gardening blunder) never too old to learn !!!!

Hi Liz I have three water butts. I top up the small pond with most of the rain water, to prevent larve being laid in the butts I put a finely woven fabric over the open top securing it tightly before putting the lid on. If manufactures fitted or at least provided this fabric it would be helpful. Good luck with your project.
