Banana tree

Hi fidgetbones. Thank you so much for replying. It's about 2ft tall total (including leaf!) and I was thinking of maybe lopping the stem down by about half, meaning that there would be little or no green showing.Do you think there is anything to gain by doing that? Then feed it and water it, like you said...I'm attaching a photo so you can see what I mean by tall and skinny! Many thanks again!

Banana tree

Hello. I just acquired a rather sad looking little banana tree. It has just one rather tatty green leaf, and is rather tall and skinny. I'm wondering if it might be better to cut it back and feed it in the hope that it will grow back thicker and stronger, but I'm worried about how it will cope without any leaves. Could anyone advise, please? Many thanks in advance.

Identification of climber

Hello.  Could anyone help with identifying the climbing plant in the attached photos, please.  It has appeared climbing in competition with our Boston Ivy, and we're not sure whether it's an 'imposter' or something that the previous owner of our house might have planted that is only just getting into its stride.  It is about to come into flower and has lots of tiny green/cream-coloured buds.  Many thanks in advance.

Is this a weed?

Thank you for the responses.  Yes, prompted by sotongeoff's response, I finally remembered being given the seeds as a gift last year!  I'm chuffed that I'll be treated to some pretty, fragrant flowers fairly soon, instead of having to fill the gaps left behind by weeds!  Thanks again.

Oh gosh, yes, it is possible!!!  Thank you, sotongeoff!  I'm off to get my labels and pen : )

Is this a weed?

Hello. May I please ask for advice on whether this is a weed (see photo).  I planted some seeds last year, but my memory being sieve-like in the extreme, I forgot to label them and inevitably have forgotten what they were.  I now have these ‘plants’ (pictured) in all the places I recall planting the seeds.  I strongly suspect they are weeds that I have been nurturing and not whatever plants should have evolved from the mystery seeds I planted!  Hope you can help. Many thanks in advance.

Hello all.  I was sad to see the BBC board close, but thankful to receive all the info on where to go -- huge thanks to those who took the trouble to provide the info and links.
