What (or who) is this in the pond?

Edd, I've just googled it... Wikipedia says leather jackets can be found in water!

Noooo I don't think it is... they have been in there for a few weeks and there are several of them. I'm pretty sure they sure they are in the intentionally. They look pretty happy!

Over the last few weeks I have noticed several of these little grubs in our wildlife pond. Anyone have any idea what they could be?

Will a Lavatera work in partial shade?

Posted: 12/04/2015 at 10:25

Hi all, I have a gap in a north west facing border, backed by a 5 foot fence.. so the ground level is in shade most on the day until late afternoon, but the top of fence is in sun most of day. I'm looking for a fast growing shrub, preferably which flowers in summer. I saw a Lavatera 'Barnsley' which would look lovely there, however it says it needs 'full sun'. Any ideas if it would work in the area I want it to? Is it likely to go leggy? or not flower? Otherwise, any other ideas for the spot?

Had lots of seedlings last summer. Will keep my eyes peeled for them this year and remove asap. Thanks for the advice.

Hmm, in fact, I'm 99% sure its Pendula! Thank you. Now I'm seeing advice on google to dig it up because its so invasive. Damn!

Oh, nutcutlet, now I'm wondering if mine is actually Carex Pendula. They both look the same

I have an area with several clumps of Fringed Sedge aka Carex Crinita. They are a great space filler (although tend to be invasive). However they are looking a little tired and in need of tidying up. Any idea how best to prune them? I assume I shouldn't cut them right back as they are evergreen, however cutting out individual dead blades is almost impossible. Any ideas?

Get well soon Nigel
