If and When to feed a fig tree

Posted: 11/06/2015 at 09:15

Last weekend we bought a smallish Brown Turkey fig tree (impulse purchase!) and have it in a pot by a sunny south facing fence. All is looking good, its sprouting more leaves already. My question is do we need to feed it? When? And with what?

Our Clematis Comtesse de Bouchaud has just started flowering but the leaves near the bottom are all going browny purple and dying. I admit I forgot to feed it this Spring ... is it too late to feed now?

Dead-heading. I find it very therapeutic

WHY IS MY PEONY PLANT NOT FLOWERING?

Ours didn't flower this year either. We usually only get one flower anyway, but this year the bud stayed tiny then just died

Wow that looks awesome. I will definately try to seek out some Bevan's variety. Great ground cover. Just what I need.

Is the white one 'White-Ness'? Looks pretty. Will keep an eye out when next at the garden centre

WillDB that patch looks lovely. G. macrorrhizum still looks a bit weed-like to me but I guess that means it will spread easily which is what I need! Macrorrhizum is a long word nut!!

Thanks WillDB. Excellent ideas. I never thought of geraniums there, I love them. I also love Japanese anemones. Quite happy for them to become invasive!

MrsGarden, I like pulmonarias although they don't seem to have done very well anywhere in my garden! Lords and Ladies, I have some of those, they do ok but are quite delicate and susceptible to dog damage! No idea what Lamina is!

Nut, is Geranium macrorrhizum a weed?, then again Pentaglottis sempervirens could be called as one too but its very pretty.

Think I might get Mr Finch to cut back some of the lower tree branches to give the plants more of a chance

Thanks for the suggestions. Its not that dense, it does get some light but just minimal sun. The plants that are there look pretty ropey! I will try periwinkle, that's the kind of thing I'm after... any others similar?
