Digging up daffodil bulbs to replant

Thanks Dove, the fork was so much better!  All now replanted.  Nothing more I can do now, except wait and hope.

Digging up daffodil bulbs to replant

I've started to dig up some bulbs because they are in the wrong place and am going to replant them elsewhere.  Because i can't tell their exact positions I have managed to slice a bit off the side of a few of them. Will these ones still grow happily?  The shoots are still intact.

Digging up and replanting bulbs elsewhere - yes, or no?

Last autumn I planted a dozen Narcissus Spring Dawn near to the front of a border. They didn't start blooming till late March and the leaves didn't completely die down till the end of June.  The flowers were really lovely though and long lasting.  Is it too late now to move them to the back of the border?

Thanks Berghill.  I hope I don't damage the muscari leaves when I plant the pansies - which I still have to buy.

No, Lyn, they haven't flowered.  Do they need some soil around the roots to transplant successfully?  Or, if I give them a haircut (how short?) in situ, and just put compost and pansies on top of them, will they grow new leaves and flower next Spring?

Last March I had two pots like this by my front door.  In early summer I removed the dying pansies, and with them the soil from the top half of the pot, leaving the bulbs in situ to come up again next Spring, with the aim of adding more compost and a new top layer of pansies this autumn.  But I now find that the muscari have already sent out 4" tall green leaves!  So I will probably have to start again from scratch.  Can I successfully transplant the muscari into the garden? Any tips?

You may be right punkdoc.  I'm in Harrogate.  Where are you?  Thank you for the advice Verdun.  I shall act on it.  After all I suppose they won't die if I cut them back.   Nothing venture, nothing gain!
