Trollius Alabaster - what, when and how to prune?

Posted: 30/06/2013 at 14:40

I bought 3 of these gorgeous plants in May and they have flowered continuously since then, but are now nearing the end of their display.  I am confused by the differing advice on garden websites about pruning.  Some say you may get a second flush of flowers if you cut all flowering stems down to the ground.  Some tell you to shear the whole plant to get fresh new leaves.  Does anyone have this plant and can give me some advice from their own experience?

I seem to recall Monty once saying that he never washes his pots before reusing them

Yes, I can see it has done, but then how do I find my post?  I'm not getting the "See last unread post" option.

So, if I just write "Bump" in my comment box, Singy, does it go to the top of the Followed Threads page?

Cotinus Coggygria Royal Purple - how fast does it grow?

I'm wondering where to place this plant in my border.  It's 18" tall at the moment, and looks fabulous against my CGS "Willow" fence.  I want it to be seen while it's still small, but does that mean that I need to have really titchy plants in front of it while it grows?  Or should i plant taller stuff and accept the fact that the Cotinus will be hidden till it gets bigger?  How fast does it grow?

Brown spots on clematis leaves

Posted: 21/06/2013 at 21:45

I have a patio clematis Parisienne which has developed brown spots with spidery edges on most of its leaves.  Have to say that it is still in the pot it came in from Taylor's about three weeks ago, so the stems are still closely bound together, but it has been flowering like crazy and the flowers are fantastic.  I know I haven't treated it with the respect it deserves, but can I still save it?

Lady G2, I'm definitely keeping it, and I agree, all those little self seeders will make lovely presents.  Or could go to a charity plant stall.  And I intend to keep some for myself of course
