What are you planting in your pots and containers?

Posted: 08/06/2015 at 09:07

I was having endless trouble uploading photos here until I read that there is a 2mb limit.  So I need to do some drastic cropping!  Only had time to do one so far.

Clematis Pink Fantasy, taken last year.  Colour is actually a deeper pink than appears on photo - better if you click on image and then the zoom button.

Isn't it just!  I love Yviestevie's unusual containers - especially the log for alpines.

When you dig out the bulbs and put them out of the way in a bucket, do they have to be covered with soil until the leaves go yellow?  AND, are you supposed to feed bulbs in pots or borders that have finished flowering but still have green leaves?

Wow yarrow2, what a great contribution to this thread!  Lovely to have all the pics with such detailed information about the plants   I shall have to look out for some old tin baths!

Ericsmum, I've just put 3 black plastic pots of lilium regale into spaces in my border.  I bury them about 2 inches into the soil so they don't get blown over.

So interesting to hear what you are all growing - such a variety!  Chicky, I love your group of pots - my favourite colours too!  Has anyone else got photos of last summer's containers.  The things I have permanently in pots are lilies, agapanthus, roses, hydrangea and clematis.  I like to ring the changes with  different plants and colours most summers.  Last year my two pots of tuberous begonias were fantastic so I have bought more of those this year.  Am also trying pelargoniums for the first time.

Having been totally underwhelmed by most of the GW mag's ideas for summer containers, I thought we might share some ideas and pics of what has or hasn't worked in the past, and what we're planning for this year. Do you prefer just one variety in a pot ( easy option! ), or are you good at mixtures?  Last year I tried Isotoma on their own, but after a few weeks they looked messy as they are a real chore to try and deadhead.

Anyone have damage from last night's tulmultous weather?

My clematis Prince Charles shoots have taken a battering - lots of broken ones and sad, shrivelling leaves

Photo problems

Posted: 05/05/2015 at 14:34

I tried to attach a photo to a forum post yesterday and a box came up saying: radupload ajax callback error JavaScript invalid content message, and a whole lot more gobbledy gook.  The computer screen froze and there was no visible exit button to click on.  I tried everything I could think of without success, including trying to force quit the application.  I came back to it later, tried Safari Quit Safari, and the message and the GW page disappeared.  Everything was back to normal, much to my relief.

Has anyone else had a similar message when trying to attach a photo to a post?
