Cutting flower suggestions

Posted: 04/02/2015 at 20:41

Planting up loads of bulbs this weekend hopefully, others have to wait, we have gladioli, dahlias, lilies, lily of the valley and a peony so far, going to garden centre on weekend to see if we can get any more. So hopefully will get even more.

definitely going to look up Sarah raven on YouTube to check, didn't think about that. Thank you. There is one small white flower that our local florist has constantly just can't remember them, might pop in and just buy some so I'll remember!

Cutting flower suggestions

Some brilliant suggestion never heard of alchemilla Mollis, going to have do some research and Internet shopping! Greenery wise I have space around the shed, green house and fruitcage.

I'm a classic flower arrangement person, cottage garden ones with roses, delphiniums, lavender etc in or all one species, all tulips etc.

writing lists of flowers I like.

Love rachel and her section on the show helped come up with the idea to give up 2 beds to flowers, plus save money.

Thank you you for the suggestions.

Cutting flower suggestions

We've always had one raised bed for flowers to encourage beds etc. But over the last year we've realised we spend up to £8 a week of flowers for the house so have decided to turn 2 more raised beds that run along the edge of our allotment into cutting flowers beds. The problem is because I have never grown flowers for cutting I can only think of the following and really want some suggestions on flowers and foliage that can be cut that I haven't thought of or are unique.

All suggestion ion are really welcomed been watching the allotment challenge and garden revival and gardeners world and keep forgetting or losing them or not having a pen and paper at hand.

Flowers we have-

daffodils, (we have thousands of these!)

3 rose bushes

2 peony bushes

lilies (do day lilies work as cut flowers?)

Stocks (we had amazing stocks last year, wish I harvested the seeds!)

sweet peas

sweet williams and

i want lots of different varieties and heights, and the beds are in full sun all day, beds are big, 3 m by 1.75m, plus we have lots of pots and baskets to grow more in.

If you can think of any more please let me know I'm stuck after this.

many thanks,

Thanks for all your support nice to be on such a friendly, helpful forum for a change.

Well nothing has happened with getting our stuff back but I've been working hard over the half term holiday to get it back into some decent state, i've got our tools hanging up and used an old mini pvc green house shelving to store small tool, watering can, bottles etc on, so the inside of the shed is looking really organised right now. I've built a composter and planned my beds.

I've started to replace some bits and bobs thanks to people being lovely. We were given 4 herb plants and 6 strawberries by the local plant stall because she was so disgusted by the theft, So got half the strawberry plants we had back we have a rosemary, sage, thyme and marjoram. We found a plastic barrel washed up on the beach on sunday so we're going to use that as a water butt for now and then wait to get a proper one, when we have got ourself sorted.

My dad's kindly offered to rebuy us a coldframe. We said we'll give it till mid march if we hear nothing he'll replace it then.

We're going to get some pots on this payday, and I'm looking out for bargains on the pots.

To cheer myself up I brought some fruit trees, an apple, a pear, a plum and a cherry. We got 4 free 30 litre pots, so we're going to grow them in the pots so if we get a house with a nice big garden we can grow them on there at some point, Total came to £29.99p plus free p&p.

Got some vouchers so I'm going to by a walking pvc mini greenhouse and I'm looking out for cheap strawberry planters.

So hopefully with a little more hard work and tlc we should get there with the allotment.

gardengirl.. I am growing flowers with my vegs, growing sunflowers, sweet peas, cosmos, alsorts really, mostly flowers that I can cut. I want to grow a climber over the front of the shed, something that smells like honeysuckle or jasmine. But not sure at the moment.

Lovely police officer has come and he's seen all our evidence and seen all the photos and the time stamps and the boxes and pots etc and he's convinced that this is definitely theft, or at least the man clearly didn't have a clue what he was doing.

He's going to get the address for the man and go round and see what the outcome is and try and get our items back, the police officer is then going to talk to the council about the water butts for us as they have damaged our allotment in the process.

So we have to see what happens now...

this is before we started on the allotment...

This is when we did some work on it...

You can see we put some bark down and built the cold frame and herb bed...

the cold frame and herb bed all done up,

shed with everything ready to go once we could enter the shed

soil turned over ready and compost and manure piled up ready to go.

there is cctv cameras pointing down the tracks in the allotment and one is facing towards our allotment so hopefully the police will deal with it, waiting for the police now, if they can find us.

Thank you for your advice, we don't have a lot of money so we were going to do alittle each month thats why dad brought me the cold frame for my birthday to start us off.

He knew what he was doing cause the council told him we started on the allotment and told him to only empty the shed. He's a local business owner so when the police turn up we can tell him that.
