Weed or not

Posted: 13/04/2015 at 14:38

I have hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of those damned things growing all over my garden right now, its a daily job to keep yanking them out. Quite the most prolific growing tree in my opinion. Drives me mad. It'll take me another few weeks to get the horrors out yet there are so many of them.

Rat free bird feeding

Exact same problem here. Just too many rodents. We can cope with some of them but the rats. Nope. And they're big, they're the size of shoe boxes. Shooting them works for us too! Same with the gray squirrels!

What is this please?

OK BobTheGardener, thank you. I did have an inkling it might be that. Same old routine then, pulling it up as soon as I see it and just keep going! If only there weren't so much of it, some of it flowers before I can even get that far! If it were growing somewhere else I'd probably leave it, but I just can't leave it to grow there it looks a fright!

Has anyone seen this plant before?

I'm so sorry AnnEastwd I can't help you at all but having a right old belly laugh at your reaction!

Thanks Lucy, I do have somewhere I can put it thankfully, if it turns out not to be too much of a monster, in this case I don't mind if it's a bit rampant but would like to know that it's not going to poison soil etc, if that's the case I'll just keep pulling it out from where I don't want it and disposing of it! Agreed re weeds though, one persons weed, another persons beauty!

Swifts in decline

Posted: 27/03/2015 at 13:02

I remember seeing Swifts locally to where I lived years ago. But sadly, I haven't seen one in a very, very long time now.

What is this please?

Hello everyone,

Could someone identify this for me?

Is it weed? Or is it not? Is it friend, or foe? It grows fairly rampantly and seems fairly rough to get rid of and insists on growing in the shingle border around my house right where I don't want it. If it's not too beastly, could I put it down somewhere else?

Bit tricky with the sun and then shade today but hopefully the pictures are clear enough.

Thank you, Heather

Looking for a ground cover plant

Posted: 17/02/2015 at 14:54

Hi All,

I'd like some advice/suggestions please.

I'm looking for a ground cover plant, must be evergreen, which is hardy, can just get on with it, grows as the name suggests, on the ground, not very tall, which will grow in either partial sun or partial shade in heavy soil in a woodland garden. Needs to be a rampant grower too, it needs to cover a large area quickly.

Not fussed if it flowers or not and the need for a rampant grower is so I have to buy a lot less of them given the area I want to cover!

Thank you in advance, Heather

Daily Bird Sightings 2015

Posted: 11/02/2015 at 19:45

I didn't Oneofseven unfortunately I missed it. I really must remember about it next year and make sure I get it done. I did it last year. Tree Creepers are just great aren't they? To be honest though, I'm happy whatever bird I'm watching (not so keen on the mob mentality of the pigeons or magpie's, don't get me wrong, I like both but when there's so many of them!!) and life would be absolutely awful without birds. Our dawn chorus is quite something too!
