Indeed Verdun. And I guess it wouldn't be any fun at all if we weren't presented with a certain amount of frustration and challenges!

I've attached a couple of pictures here of a shrub (tree?) that we acquired just a few days ago. It was donated kindly by someone who'd dug it out of their garden and asking if we want it.

Said shrub (tree) is now transplanted into our garden but it was much larger than we realised and we had to cut the poor thing back by quite a bit to get it into the van so we could get it home. It was also out of the ground completely for a good week before we collected it. So, only time will tell if it will recover or not.

But I need an ID please. I think it may be a Ceanothus (Californian Lilac) and luckily it still has one small blue flower on it which should help with the ID.

All I'm seeing here is blank boxes so fingers crossed you all can see the images.

Thank you

Hi Verdun!!

Thanks for the welcome back!

Good to see you that you've lost none of your modesty in my time away !

I'm not Winter's biggest fan, that's true! But unfortunately, every time we have a very wet Autumn, as we did this year, it turns our entire garden into a swamp and it stays that way for months on end, trying to put down your feet, or walk in certain areas of the garden, quite literally means taking your life in your hands, it's deadly. You either slip or sink into the equivalent of a bog, it's awful. We have managed in parts, the odd hit here and there, to clear some sections, but its been very hit and miss. And I hate it. But, we live where we live and this is England and it rains a lot sometimes so we just have to go with the flow and do what we can when we can.

A quick hi and hello to you all!

It's been, I think, some six months since my last visit to this site. Imagine that! How did that happen?

Oh how I'm looking forward to the Spring! My garden at this point in time is looking a very sorry state indeed, barren for the most part, still swamped in mud due to all the rain, despite it being very cold, snowy and frosty, still covered in Autumn's leaf fall and in need of some serious TLC. Calling Spring!!

Sorry pansy face really not sure. It was here when we took over the tenancy and is clearly quite old and not well tended before we came. I've had to much to do I haven't given it full attention either ashamed to say. I've kept it cut back a little, but it doesn't seem to have improved it much. I'm working with it again now, or trying to but I've been afraid of cutting it back too hard for fear of killing it! And right now I'm thinking that the only thing that would save it is Nut's shredder!

I saw the pairing show. Would love to see Judy Murray stay for a while, I always thought she was a right old battle-axe but I'm warming to her lately. But she was stiff as a board bless her. Whatshername from the Saturdays I think will do very well. For the boys I was really impressed with Jake Wood (him from Eastenders), looked like he could shake the hips a bit. Time will tell, I was a bit tired, maybe it was me swaying and not his hips! Bring it on, can't wait. Missing James Jordan and Robin Windsor this year, but loving Kevin from Grimsby again!

Pansyface - the Chestnut grows and towers above a very large Japonica (variety escapes me just now) which isn't doing well. Didn't last year and is doing even worse this year. Could that be affected by the Fungus? Or could it be just the fact that its so close to the tree that it isn't getting enough nutrients do you think?

Nut - all the neighbourhood mice chewed through all of my Cyclamen and murdered them
