Drought Tolerant Mint

Posted: 05/08/2013 at 23:33

See your posts now, Thank you. No, can't really do the water bucket version. I live on an estate and it's in the communal area, far away from any faucet and not deep either. Different choice of plant, apparently. I just read that "Lamium maculatium" (some form of deadnettle) doesn't mind neither shade nor dry - should be worth a try!

Thanks anyway.

Dear "Water butt", apparently you answered me, but I can't see it. Can you post again? Thanks.

Drought Tolerant Mint

I'd like to grow a type of mint in a corner of my garden which lies in the rain shadow of a wall. Does anybody know of a type of mint, that is not as water hungry as most?

Thanks for your help.

Plants for complete shaded areas

I read sweet woodruff will go along with shade as well. They have white blossoms in May/June and smell nice. There is always ivy as well, the most shade resistant plant I know of. Avoid any varieties with white markings, as in complete shade the white will fade to a sickly pale green. Rather go for some dark leafed varieties with an interesting leaf shape.
