When living near London area the one that I used for ironing kept getting clogged with limescale, I wiggled a pin in the holes.

If you shake it & it's only half full it's easy to get air into the tubing.

I agree though, they are temperamental!!

Woke to about 1" of snow, temps around 4c, wind subsided somewhat & beautiful sunshine all day.

Paths have thawed & at S. facing front, but still white at the back; think it may be a bit nippy tonight.....

Half a dozen snowflakes on the grass at the back & 2c in the shed.  Sunny but looks quite windy - think it'll be vv cold when we venture out.

Thanks Geoff, wasn't too sure whether it should be done now whilst they are just starting to grow, but the temps are cold, or when they get bigger but it's warmer. I only planted them last year but they have really taken off!  I'll have a dig if the forecast is reasonable.
