"desirable" plants that become invasive monsters

Posted: 13/02/2013 at 18:33

I realised last year - their first year in the garden, that monarda & achillea were trying to elbow all of their neighbours out of the way.  They look as if they can fairly easily be controlled though. ( I hope !!)

Bright & sunny morning, spent several hours outside, but wind very cold.

Snow forecast tomorrow turning to rain, but I'm at the dentist.

Zoomer - I would think that the roads will be alright - generally it's due to warm up, up here over the next few days.

Jeannie your mum if she saw rain must have been at a base the top end of the Canal near the Med, we never saw one drop, never thought I would miss rain but you do.
Never saw Naafi girls either except on the very big bases and I never saw much of them, think big prisons, some people went on from the boat and never left until time to go home.

Frank

I know she moved about a bit & was near Cairo for quite a while.  She was in an RAF camp at one point, it was called something like Helouin, but always referred to as "Hell 1."  I have lots of photos, but although labelled mean nothing to me.
My father was in the Rifle Brigade & said he knew every grain of sand on the North African coast as they advanced & retreated before El Alamain .

Beautiful bright sunshine, having a quick cuppa before going outside .

North Facing

Posted: 11/02/2013 at 00:13

I posted a similar question on the old BBC forum about 2.5 years ago when we moved into a new build with 15 x 15 meter north facing back garden.

I was advised to make a sun chart.  I got a piece of A4 paper drew boxes about 2" square in 4 columns with little gaps below each box. Each column represented the approx time of day; 9-11, 11-1, 1-3, 3-5. I drew (roughly) the sun lounge & shed as reference points in each square. Took several copies. When the sun shone (!) I drew in the appropriate timed square where the line of shade was, & wrote the date under it.

I was pleasantly surprised.  We are now just getting a few shafts of sunshine through the gaps between the houses .

Hope this makes sense; I'd nearly finished the first time & it disappeared.
