Garden Hoses

Posted: 25/06/2012 at 10:02

Can't remember what make ours is; very likely Hozelock, it's bright green & has 2 narrower yellow stripes.

Why can't someone make the fittings "fit" - they all drip when in use  !!

Hi, we used a (borrowed) coiled hose for a while & also found it easy to trip over & it didn't stretch as far as it should either.

When we bought our own new one last year we opted for one advertised as "non-kink," (has a stripe down it) - so far so good .   Strangely we haven't used it much lately........

We did buy it (discounted )  & I finally used it yesterday.

It did a sterling job with the creeping buttercup & as Jaycee says, it's all done from the standing position & I did enjoy flicking the weed into the bucket!  I just filled the holes with compost & grass seed.

Yikes Hezzie,

Moving to Shetland - you haven't got your troubles to seek have you - salt; peat; wind & latitude!

Having visited both Orkney & Shetland several times (as you'll know, both sets of islands are very different from each other) we really liked both places & the people there are just lovely, but my husband & I agreed that we could never live there; we couldn't stand the constant wind.

I'm sure you know what they say happens to Shetlanders when they go on holiday- as soon as they get off the plane they fall over - they forget that they don't have to lean into the wind!

I'm finding that quite a lot of my plants seem to get wind burn, but we're in the Moray Firth area, positively balmy in comparison.  I suppose you do have 1 consolation - you can garden nearly 24 hours a day just now as it's so light!  At least your plants will have a few months to settle in now before the arrival of the winter storms...........

I think that a Gardener's World from Shetland is an excellent idea; it's so very different from gardening in the vast majority of the UK. I have noticed that this year there are a number of gardens opening there under the yellow book scheme - you could go along & pick some brains there!

Cheers & good luck

I had a few wooden ones last year & where I used a felt pen is now a damp, black & muddy mess, but where I used a biro it's more legible. (They might be better if the stick dried out).

Has anybody got one of these?  Is it any good?

Local gc has a sale on just now & hubby thinks that the long handle would save his back.

Surely it can't be as easy as they show........ can it??

BBC Gardening Arrivals - Meeting Point

Hi folks, just arrived from the BBC site, can I come in??

Wow, I hadn't realised that I "virtually" knew so many posters - and they're all here. I hope that the "locals" on here are friendly with so many of us arriving en masse - we don't want to be cliquey!

It will take me a while to get used to this site, being somewhat technologically inept, however I did manage to add a geranium photo which I took a while ago. (Smugsmiley).

Cheers, Jean.
