I like the colours of this type although not ever grown it. If it's like the Bowles Mauve one than I find just keep snipping off the flowers and you will get more

Growing from seed for beginners...

It is trial and error and everyone will have their own way of doing the same thing, but it is relatively easy to get a garden full of plants this way. I grew mainly annuals last year as it was a blank plot and still had loads of surplus. It does depend on what seeds you are sowing some need particular conditions. Once they've germinated, don't water too much as damping off can kill a lot of seedlings.

Seed sowing is so addictive

Good point re variety. I use 5 indiviual strips to one tray so I can grow 5 different types in just one tray.

Hi Sparkles, definatley not false economy. The amount of plants that comes from a packet of seeds never ceases to amaze me. I love growing from seeds, for me it's the best bit of gardening apart from propagating cuttings.

Try and sow thinly as if every seeds germinates you will have a lot of plants! I haven't grown the plants that you are looking to grow but good luck.

I use a normal propagator sometimes start them off in house and then move them outside to a cold frame. In the Spring and Summer I sow outside and let them get on with it. Have fun with your seed sowing

I didn't do much/any Autumn sowing, with the mild winter I wish I had. Hardy annuals can be sowed this way too

I like seedaholic, have had good germination with all the seeds I've bought form them. The packaging is good, tells you all you need to know about the plant
