free seeds

Posted: 08/04/2013 at 19:57

Only just started getting into veg and have noticed that the veg seeds seem to be a lot more expensive than the flowers. Free seeds are great.

I've done the same Lyn, last year I sowed an entire packet of snap dragons, and they all germinated, gave loads away the garden was full of them, a great show. This year I've started to divide my seed trays into 3 and sow a bit more thinly.

Used Compost?

Posted: 08/04/2013 at 19:16

I mix it up with new compost to use in pots etc. Might consider throwing it on the beds though now. Is it best to dig it if you want to improve the soil or does it just become incorporated over time?

Hellebore Addiction

Been looking at these myself this year, not ever considered them before. Like their nodding heads. Do insects like them?

Today I feel so happy....

Hi Pentille, I'm happy because the majority of seeds I sowed are still alive and waiting for some more sunshine to get them really going and I've got loads more to sow

I've got one of those darlek ones Fairygirl, did get some useable compost out of it last year , in the veg raised beds as we speak.  I don't have a lot of space. Think the trick to any compost is to keep turning it

Larkspur and Monkshood

Larkspurs, I find them strange plants to grow from seed, just when you think nothing's happening up they come. I sowed mine off the plant last summer although they weren't big enough to plant out last year. They have survived in the frames and am now  nuturing them to go out this year

What has happened???

Hi Sam, good to see you Yes there has been a lot of bickering/unpleasantness and loss of manners. Like you I see the invite as just somewhere else to go and chat about gardening.

Will never use the term internet etiquette again

Most of mine have buds but are very slow to open. Think the cold weather has slowed them down

Non Support of Poor Companies

I don't work in retail but part of my job is customer service. As someone who hears a lot of moaning/complaining/false expectations/disappointments/sense of entitlement and poor service. It really does help when the person complaining remains calm and polite. I am only just a person, as are my colleagues  working in a company and do this so I can earn a living.

What I will say is the person who remains calm, reasonable and polite in any communicaton is much more likely to get a positive response from any organisation.

In the retail sector I guess if you don't get want you pay for and and are disappointed with their response, then just don't use them again. Not used T&M much apart from their "free" offers, was surprised at the size of the plantlets provided so have chosen not to use them again.

In terms of internet etiquette, the use of capital letters means a person is shouting, the same as it does in text messages etc.
