Thanks for your suggestion, Green Dahlia. I'll have a look at akebia quinata, but I think it might involve too much work, confining it to a height of 10ft !

Thank you, Bob The Gardener. I didn't realise there was such a wide choice of clematis plants which would be happy in full shade. I look forward to browsing the list!

I wonder if someone could give me advice about suitable climbers for an east-facing wall. It faces the side of the house (about 7ft away),so gets very little direct sunshine. The wall is about 10ft high, and the available space is roughly 6ft wide.

I look forward to receiving some suggestions!

Could someone please advise me on how to treat a 30-year old,seriously compacted lawn (on a thin layer of soil). There is a lot of worm activity at the moment, which presumably is helping to aerate the soil. The overall condition, though, is so bad, that I wonder if the best thing to do is to dig the lawn up and start again!
