Weeds from next door

Unfortunately we all have "those" neighbours. I think the barrier below-ground is the only real solution. Some people are just selfish and do not think about how their gardens are affecting others and their gardens.

Keeping Cats off My Veg Patch

Agree with those favouring water pistols. I need to invest in a good supersoaker! I don't blame the cats, I blame their owners for not training them to do their "business" in their own garden, Water FTW! Anyone have any Water Gun recommendations?

Where is everybody from...

Glad to see such a great response! I know u can put where ur from on a profile, but it's not the same as having an actual discussion (which is the reason we're all here!) Its interesting finding out about how much each garden is affected by the area as well as individual factors.

Our garden is medium sized, south-facing (though we get a lot of afternoon & evening shade from a selfish neighbours tree) with fantastic soil, thanks to the close we live down being built on what was once a nursery. My main challenge's for this year are to carry on renovating the garden (we bought the house last year with a really overgrown garden) and growing as many chilli plants as possible!

As for avatars, I'll change mine now!

Where is everybody from...

Thought I would start to a new thread on just finding out where everybody is from.

I'm from Mytchett in Surrey. A nice little village that feels like it's on the edge of the world (due to the numerous towns all attached to each-other on one side, and woodland and heathland on the other side). Interesting micro-climate too

Plants or weeds?

My mother-in-law is good at spotting weeds. Though surely the definition of a weed is just a plant that you do not want?

Mystery Shrub/small tree

Thanks Chilli Lover. When we had a warm, sunny day last week, we had hundreds of bee's swarming the Mahonia... I should have taken a picture!

Any ideas on the above? Might well be mahonia aquifolium...

Miracle Gro bags that I bought a couple of weeks ago seemed pretty decent (though time will tell!)
