suggestions for trees/shrubs

Posted: 04/05/2014 at 22:56

Help please I have a border at the side of our driveway its approx 4feet wide by 18ft long.  at the moment it has five conifers that have been clipped in square box shapes. They do not look very healthy and I am looking to remove them and plant something different. I wondered if anyone had suggestions for a small tree with a maximum height of approx six feet "lollypop" style.. ???

Do you have any gardening design books? If not check your local library this will give you an idea and the look you would like to achieve. Japanese gardens do not have many flowering plant  Maybe  acers, conifers,  stone and pebbles and maybe a bamboo to complete the look.  try and incorporate some water even if its only a large tub. Its exciting this stage so hope you enjoy it...

Hi all has anyone heard this?  that you can use white vinegar to get rid of weeds in a path?  Is this true and would there be any drawbacks to using it. I have a small veg plot with raised beds and the surrounding paths get very weedy.  Cheers..

I have tried growing parsley from seed with little success. Can anyone tell me if I planted a pot bought from the supermarket will it grow and will it  survive a Scottish winter outside ?

Sowing mad!

As its such a lovely day here in Perth I think I will follow your example and pop out  to GH and take the chance to sow a few seeds. Mostly veg although this year I am saving a bit of the border to grow flowers for cutting.  Nothing ventured as they say.

Sounds great.  I am going to start this week , had a look back at last years sowing times diary  and can see I  lost a lot by sowing early.  Its hard to wait though.....
