Edging for beds

Posted: 23/09/2013 at 08:45

Our garden comprises of two  beds either side of a large gravel 'lawn'. The gravel was here when we moved in and there are tons of it. I would like to enlarge the beds to reduce the gravel area but can't find a suitable edging as I want curves not straight edges. We have rotten log roll edges at the moment but I would like something different.

Thank you all for your replies. It is definitely Arum Italicum.

Help Identifying Plant

On Gardeners World last Friday Monty was planting ferns to grow in the shade of his "Lime Walk". Just after 14 mins into the programme, when he was digging the hole for the second fern, I spotted a plant in the centre of the bottom of the screen which I have in my garden. It grows about a foot tall and has green berries along the stem turning bright orange. I would be really grateful if anyone can tell me what it is called.

Cucumelons

Perhaps I will try again. It may be a bit late but perhaps if they grow I will be able to save the rhizome for next year

I have tried three times to germinate cucamelon seeds without success. What do you think I am doing wrong? Sown in multipurpose compost in small seeds trays covered with a propagater lid. No trouble with other similar seeds.

I have purchased one the these plants. It has two strong stems and is starting to show buds/leaves. I cannot put it out into the garden yet because of the weather. What would be the best way to start training it.

Asparagus

I let my asparagus plants produce ferns a couple of months ago and some of these are now turning brown but I noticed  yesterday that they have started producing new spears. Can I cut these or should they also be left to seed. This has never happened before presumably it is because of the strange weather conditions we are having.
