lantern tree

Hi Margaret, I have one, and live in Surrey. I  had another one outside in the ground and it died. I replaced it with the one that I have now and it has lasted for 12 years in the greenhouse. I was told that it is not frost hardy. Maybe that is why the first one died. It was slow to grow but now flowers its heart out, without fail; every year. It is beautiful and the flowers look as if they are artificial. Worth an investiment as it not demanding at all expect for the usual plant needs. Enjoy!

Am I posting too much?

Seed companies

I find that T&M are expensive e.g. their Cobaea Scandens seeds are £1.82p for 9 seeds, but Fothergills, are 20 for £3.00p.

Marshalls' are cheaper too.

It is a pleasure watching starlings in my garden especially when they visit the bird table in the afternoon(between 2&3 pm). they are a sociable group and arrive together. they have alot to say and after feeding enjoy a good bath in the birdbath and the small fountain. Then suddenly they are gone. They take their chances for food with rooks, wood pigions and magpies.

I help feed the smaller birds by hanging feeders by the patio from the pergola which they share with the squirrels. Small birds are quite ternacious and do alright, thank you!! I don't think there is a way of segregating them. If we could, we would apply that to human beings and there would be no wars and no precious freedom.

Whats this pest?

Oh Christopher....there you go again, not everyone has our dry,dry sense of humour. Still, you have not made me smile for a while with your remarks ( your postings have been rather serious)

Having said that, I am surprised at Jeans' reaction. I think she is pretty laid back( I don't mean literally)! You caught her at a bad time I think. Yes, a smiley would have soften the remark. So here's to aloverly , long friendship

Thank you FloBear, I shall not clean my little pond ever again and maybe I'll be lucky!

You lucky thing Budlia63, I've had a pond for years (with fish) and have froglets every year(spend my life rescuing them from cats!) but never had newts.

This must have been a good year as the pond edging has run out of space(occupied with frogs and juniors) As the garden is still overrun with slugs and snails, I wonder what the frogs eat!

Hey Freshairfanatic.......stop wishing and put a large bowl in your garden and place a bog plant in it......before long you will find that frogs have turned into their "des res" They did that in my garden. Good luck.

Talking about pruning........do hydrangeas do the same? I pruned two of them two years ago and did not expect them to flower last year, but they have not done so this year either. They are looking very robust and healthy too.I just hope it is just an extra looooong sulk and buckup next year! Anyone have a similar problem?
