Asparagus Seedlings

If you want spears (in 2 to 4 years time) you will have to put them in the ground. If you are growing them for just the ferns(for cut flowers use)then they will be quite happy in a large pot.

fruit for pergola

Hi Steve, I have a northwest facing pergola and have a couple of grape vines growing up it. .......I get shade and fruit.....even this year, so try.

Hi Aunty Betty, I grow hops(green and yellow leaf). They are ever so lucky to grow. in fact they self seed and take over the garden! I decided to grow them for the same reason as you and am glad I did as I found the dried hops in the GC expensive for a plant that is so easy to grow. An added bonus is that the bees and butterflies love them and blue tits and robins enjoy the seeds in the winter. I have the hop plants clambering up an apple tree and up my pergola. They die down in the winter and new shoots appear in sprung. If you live in Surrey I could send you a few plants, otherwise they are often awailable in GC in the spring. Good luck and enjoy, as even the slugs don't attack them!

What a great series!

good luck with BBC watchdog Kevin, I find that they are usually only interested in problems that make good TV viewing.

I still feel very strongly that if people like GW put perssure on rouge retailers it would be more effective.

Gw subscription

I get mine with Tesco vouchers and it is cheaper than the direct subs. Worth a try if you collect Clubcard points. I have done it for several years now and you don't have the bother of being auto. locked in a sub. with GW.

Hi Holly, the white budelia are the most fragnant and easy to strike (they all are, and the butterflies they attract are a bonus) I stick pruned pieces (woody) in the ground and they are taking over the garden. So do have a go..... as they cost at least a tenner in GC's!

What a great series!

Never mind everything else (excluding Nigel of course) but I would give my eye teeth to have my sweetpeas growing like MD's. Mine are looking VERY sad indeed.

Nigel is becoming quite a star.....hogging the camera too much lately......more, more please. Only an hour long programme will do, I trhink!

I think "gardeningfantic" and David K" are well out of order, picking like that on Nigels' dad. Wait till he hears about this........WOOF, WOOF!!

But I like you both as you make me smile, Beeba.
