I too have carnations & last year was my best... being in east anglia again the soil is heavy plus I found they like sun/shade.. now I have finally found the best place I have managed to take cutting last yr which are growing... one idea as mine are now in a large pot while other garden stuff going on & they are fine.. is to somehow get some heavier soil & pot them then sink into garden...

Privet hedge dying

Posted: 26/03/2012 at 11:16

I have a habit of if i like a hedge on my travels I nip abit off (cple of bits maybe) then strip lower leaves / cut in half top leaves so more energy for cutting then simply stuff into a small part of garden & leave it alone...you can do loads of them... thus get young hedge plants. good luck

ps.cutting is about 3/4 inches..cutting put in upto small space below top leaves

you really answered your own question... you live near farmland...could be from manure etc..not sure how but as it is soo bad maybe you need to report it to enviromental health & ask what you can do.. good luck
