Root cuttings

I followed Carol Klein's advice and took some root cuttings last November, from two hardy geranims and a white anenome. I covered them with grit and placed the seed trays in the greenhouse.Absolutely nothing has happened apart from the cuttings shrivelling up! I did water them on occasion. Has anyone else tried root cuttings to get new plants? I would be interested to know how you got on and what I have done wrong.

I would recommend Asters eg. Aster Frikartii Monch. Mine has been in flower for over a month and is still going strong but there are many other late summer flowering varieties.Also good are some of the perennial geraniums. I have Geranium Dilys and it is flowering really well still.Hardy Chrysanthemums also good
