Southern Gardener

I also have a wonderful very green hydrangea big and bushy. Not a flower in sight.

Last year we did have a few flowers  we left the heads on all winter and pruned back to one bud in early Spring. However after the prune we experienced a heavy frost .

Was the frost the reason for lack of flower this season ?

Do I now leave all in tact and not even prune in the Spring?

Container Hosta Mulching

I have all my Hostas in pots dressed with pea gravel it seems to keep the slugs off the plants.

They do climb  up the pots but then give up their quest to venture further.

I thank you all for your responses.

Edd you have given me a much greater understanding of the  cucumber plant.

I could not check my variety as per seed packet as I was given the cucumber as a very small seedling and grew it on.

I still have no more cucumbers!!! many flowers with little cucumbers but they are not coming to anything like the early ones did.

I will keep a keen eye on them .Next year I will grow my own from seed and keep the packet for reference.

Hello Fellow Gardeners,

Novice greenhouse gardener. Planted a cucumber excited when flowers appeared followed by two wonderful fruits.

Now many more flowers but not developing into anything.

Do I have to remove these small non developing fruits?

Please anyone advise

Lupins

Early Summer I had success with a packet of Lupin Seeds purchased at the show in Birmingham.

All 20 seeds have now given me small plants in 8 inch clay pots. Alas they all appear to be having an issue with mould/ mildew. Leaves are looking very blue grey all new leaves coming through very normal bright green.

What should I do ? and how to winter over as I do not want to plant out the plants until the Spring. Would appreciate some help please.

Gooseberries

I do not know the variety of Gooseberry that we have. However loaded in fruit for the first time this year. Bush estimated two to three years old.

When do I pick the fruit? The berries are still quite hard but large. Could it be that they do not get any softer as this is the variety.
