Plant ID please

Posted: 17/05/2014 at 14:31

Hi guys,

I have some new plants that have just appeared in my garden from nowhere and would like to dive into your fountain of knowledge if you don't mind?

The yellow one comes on a very, very thin stem that has to be supported as it can't stand up otherwise. There is also a pink one beside it. Full sun in a border

The purple one has grown through a shrub, about 1.5m high. Half sun.

The white one has sprouted underneath a tree, half sun I would say.

Succulents advise

Ok thanks guys. I have another option. I could possibly turn it into a veggie garden But do I have to get rid of all the sand?

I'm in the Netherlands. The weather is similar to the south east of the uk. The sand is sharpish. It certainly doesn't have any problems growing weeds or grass.

Hi guys,

im planning on converting my old children's sandpit into a a succulent/cacti garden. It currently is full of nothing but sand. So how much soil should I mix in? Can our wet climate overwater them? And can a bad winter kill them off?

cheers

Cactus or.....,....

Well I either have to bring them in during winter or go for something else. What about succulents?

Cactus or.....,....

Hi guys,

So, I have a window box in a shaded area that I want to put some plants in that don't need much attention and will do something interesting all year round. Do you think I could get away with a cactus or two? Or should I be looking at something else?

cheers

As usual you guys have come up trumps. For an amateur gardener this forum is a wonderful resource. Thank you all.

Hi guys,

So, I have a lot of shady areas under trees in my driveway and I want to plant a variety of plants that will look good throughout the year and help keep the weeds at bay.

My soil has a lot of clay.

Any suggestions?

Plant pot problem

Thanks guys.

I think I might have a go at making a wooden planter. I've always fancied giving it a go.

Plant pot problem

Hi guys,

I want to put a plant pot around the base of a wooden pole I have in the garden but I can't take the pole out first. So I need either a pot that splits so I can wrap it around or a design of, possibly, a wooden one I can make. Any ideas?

Cheers
