What do I do with Rhodendriums

Posted: 16/06/2012 at 19:44

First of all, check the eventual size of plant & allow enough room for it. Moving any established shrub later on is a pain, literally in the back/neck!

Seriously, plant it at same depth as it is in the container. If the soil of the hole is dry, then yes water the hole well beforehand & also well water the plant in once planted. I personally also would put some bonemeal into the planting hole beneath the plant.

I'd also mulch it afterwards- compost, bark chips etc. As with any new planting dont let it dry out during its' first year & with rhodos especially when you see the first signs of new buds forming, usually about early autumn onwards. J.

Neighbour going on holiday I think, so by the time she's back I'll probably have done it myself. Ok not house proud, but there was nothing wrong with it before yesterday! It's a real pain with workmen, which is why I only reluctantly get any in! Mind you I have a couple of heavy duty buckets that got left one time on my property- excellent for storing garden canes & such like in the shed!

The rain has been really heavy again & my glorious poppy has been flattened, despite being staked! It's got 3 huge blooms out & another 5 to go! Not bad for £1! Oh well shall try & sort tomorrow, if I get a chance, otherwise it'll be monday. Oh blast, just remembered expecting parcel delivery on monday- think note on door may be in order. At least with Tesco you know approx when will arrive.

Eek, the rain is torrential now!

Wonder if I can get a look at the forecast for tomorrow before get all prepared for this picnic? J.

Kate- I'd also suggest that your OH talks to them, but point out, nicely of course, the overhanging plants etc. He might be quite pleased for someone else to take care of it?

Hallumi & veg bake tonight- yippee, have missed this one.

Am bit cross with our now dirty UPVC garage door, courtesy of next doors' workmen using some pressure washer type thingy on her concrete patterned drive. Do I ask her to clean it? Why should I? Was fine before.

Managed to get our wheely bin back- cheeky so 'n sos had got it down off our side to prop up a large plastic sheet across her door! Pointed out to the workmen that wasnt hers' nor had they asked permission to 1. come onto our property & 2. use it!! Think he got the message from the mad woman next door!! (me) Bin was returned pronto. J.

Complete mystery to me.

Rain again here. Thought it'd stopped/passed over earlier. OH wants to have a picnic tomorrow, daughter panicking about a work deadline so grumbled about picnic idea. OH pointed out t'was Father's Day & he wanted to go out!!

Tennis still on- I no longer have remote, so quite surprised about that!

Did a whole load of sorting out yesterday- carriert bags of 'stuff' that we'd got from when cleared Dad's house last year. Lots of laughter & tears but discovered various original birth/death certificates that will be useful should daughter continue with the family tree sometime. Also now know where my grandparents are buried- just assumed somewhere else, so that's good.

Tonights' meal to start sometime soon. We also had cheese & tomato toasted sandwiches for lunch. J.

Hi, just had some sort of computer crisis? It suddenly lost the net, daughter still got & all lights on rooter still on, then said 'windows doing a repair'!! Ended up saying couldnt do anything, blah, blah. So unplugged it all, replugged, rebooted & hey presto all ok.....was even still logged in on here. Weird.

No hadnt had anything extra attached to it- dont do that, come on am pc thick after all. So no idea.....

Need to get OH to sort out my security though- he promised & he's trying to look interested in the tennis- I have the remote!

Raining again & the wind still strong. Well at least the pc hiccup meant that I did some mending whilst waiting on 'a repair'.......J.

Those pizza trays come with holes already in them- try wilcos, supermarkets etc.

BTW they do work very well for pizzas- bases very crisp. J.

In a pot? Any chance it could have dried out? They really prefer being in the ground, with some moisture around. J.

The rain appears to be moving away, as getting brighter, but the wind is still strong in Manchester. Only about 13-14C out there, no wonder OH just gone to find a 2cnd jumper!

Loreli- I've got a 'returning' Acanthus that doesnt want to flower. Yes, bits are appearing not quite where I'd expect them, or want, but easily pulled up when spotted. J.

Am back. Nearly got lost in hospital, even the staff unsure of where I needed to go & how to get there!

Anyway made it! A nice nurse ended up taking me up in a lift- dont usually do lifts, but stairs didnt seem to get me anywhere sensible. Appointment went well & another staff member got me back down to ground floor & pointed me in right direction for my carpark- which was not full, so no problem there.

Nipped into M&S on way back as had dress in bag- if it hadnt needed washing etc it does now! Found jacket & yes the colour would be fine. Sussed out best size- am in-between really- then suddenly thought, big mistake, of the bag want to use. Not sure it'll be a close enough match/tone-in to jacket. Hmm, so have now put bag in my shopper ready for tonight & see if it is ok. You watch the 2 remaining correct size jackets get sold in the meantime.

Even checked out handbags, just in case, but nothing appealed. Why oh why did I not keep that little white one that I got cheap for the last wedding? Daughter insisted that I had a major chuck out a while back- grrr. Could always try the outlet place I suppose.........

Anyway success for daughter's wants, but she can pay for them, again tough if they get sold in meantime.

Have got washing in- pretty well dry & the wind is increasing- the patio doors sound as if a bee trapped in them!

BTW Kate, memory wont come totally back- double whammy to brain in past. I cope, not sure others do though....... J.
