Am here too.

Been 'stabbed', fed birds again, been down to the kitchen veg waste compost bin with a bucket, cooked & eaten a macaroni cheese over cauli for lunch & still to do the rest of cards!

Now shall catch up. J.

What's the weather like in your area?

Posted: 07/12/2012 at 15:11

It started out sunny, but has clouded over now. 4-5C out there now. Cold wind, more NNE in our back- just been down to add kitchen veg waste to the compost bin. Wind has increased since I did bird feeders this morning.

Noticed that all the fuschias, both in tubs & ground, have all 'been got' by the recent frosts. Lots of cuttings on various sills ready for next yrs pots.

After last nights' rain was surprised not to see ice everywhere. OH only felt his car slide just as he turned into the top of our road. J.

Should be around sometime tomorrow..... J.

Unheated/uninsulated greenhouse

Bjay- rolls of fleece arent that expensive & somewhere like Wilcos will be cheaper than a GC.You can layer up the fleece too.

Another investment, or pressie for you perhaps? is an expanding cloche, like a concertina, which can be made of either fleece or clear plastic. They can cost £20-25 & sometimes are on offer 3 for 2 etc. That way you can insulate/cover your plants that you want to overwinter by creating a sort of small poly tunnel inside your greenhouse without the 'faff' of trying to insulate the whole.

I've used some of mine for several yrs on top of large pots of agapanthus & a choc cosmos pot. In previous yrs I didnt even wrap the pots, but would always do now. Rarely lost anything in my very cold, exposed to East facing spot in NWest. J,

Yes, 2 'trying to be dominant' females in the same household doesnt make for peace! (I did too good a job in boosting her confindence ) Yes shall miss her, but she must live her own life. OH was only saying so t'other week.

Becks glad it's nothing serious. Better this week than next.

Inka- that's wonderful news! Such a relief, but what a mix up!

Right am now going to book a Tesco slot, I hope. I may be gone some time as I also need to phone OH's Aunt. J.

Glyn- she is interested! Has already been asking what cuttings can I do, which shrubs etc will cope where. I suspect the hardest bit will be trying to wait 12 mths to see what is actually there before she starts anything radically different.

I do know that there are apple trees, about which I know nothing, so questions will be asked on here! This is where I wish Dad was still around to ask...he did know about those. Ooh just had a thought, OH said he wanted to grow vegetables... J.

That didnt last long! Do need to finish it though as nurse coming tomorrow

Lottie- am puzzled as to why she thought I'd react differently? I kept saying wish she'd find her own place! Ok usually in a fit of temper, but she was at uni for 6 yrs, lived away the next 2, so it was instant clash of very similar personalities over lots of things. OH & me had got used to the relative peace & me especially with him working away & previously all hours he could. Am quite happy with my own company. Neighbours on hand if an emergency.

Oh I could go on at length, just as any parent would, about all the annoying things/ habits she has. She certainly does about mine!  Am just glad that she's finally decided to make the jump onto the property ladder. Just hope that it all works out ok.

Have been mentally thinking what things she can take with her..... just as our parents did to us!

Right, I really must finish off that bit of cleaning, rest shall wizz through tomorrow before get 'got' by nurse!

Back later. J.

I'll look at both competions in a bit. Have done the GW one already.

The final piece of 'roller coaster' has been sorted. Daughter is in the proccess of buying her first house, but wouldnt tell me, as scared to!! OH knew & was decidedly unhappy with the situation & so told me- hence me feeling even worse about her not telling me. Didnt care not the first- Dads & daughters & all that. OH told daughter that I knew & still nothing said. Thought she'd come clean whist at GC this morning, no. Does she know how difficult it's been for me not to say anything?!!

Then we get home, she opens her PC & says 'do you want to look at the house?'!!

Lucky so n so will get a long, south facing garden, plus a good size front too. Has already assumed that Mum will 'do' it for her but didnt like the request for petrol £ & expenses!! She has actually done well. Good location, not the best in that area, but the next door so to speak. Work to be done so can add value etc- all those sessions of Location, Location paid off!

So that's another weight off mind. She needs her own space, especially with all her stuff. That means ours will appear emptier -yay- & so easier for us to get ready to sell! In the meantime we need to decide on where to- using the 'little house' as a base for exploring around there & w/ends in Manchester to explore another area I'd always loved & far enough away from daughter's not to be crowding her!

Becks well done for perservering with GPs. That was the correct route. A&E only for emergencies, which as Jess, though still unwell, wasnt. Good luck. J.
