So when I ordered my 6*10 greenhouse I thought it was huge turns out its really not lmao.

So how do you all have your greenhouses set up? atm I have one side with a 3ftx 6ft bed which I have discovered in veg terms isnt alot has 6 ballhead cabbages in and some things Im not sure of cause the wind got my plastic greenhouse and everything went everywhere!

the back is shelves and the other side is pots and shelves I also have hanging baskets!!

thanks guys was looking at the prices and they are a bit eye watering!! figuring that surely regular shelves with regular brackets would work just as well!!

new greenhouse teething problems

Posted: 21/06/2014 at 20:00

So finally completed my greenhouse and I have a few problems!

firstly its a palram hybrid and the door wont close properly, there is a magnet at the bottom which sorts that and the middle has the lock but the top is sitting out a bit I've tried moving it about but the top still sits out! secondly I installed an automatic vent opener it was closed when I installed it but has opened now and has been open all day, its not a particulary warm day!

So my new green house arrived and its nearly up I looked on the manufacturer website and it turns out palram make shelves for their greenhouses which attach to the frames my question will I basically have to take my green house apart to use them?

Strawberries! is it possible to have too much light?

Posted: 19/06/2014 at 11:51

one of them seems to be toast cut the flowers off in the hopes it will come back the others seem to be perking up a bit think maybe the heat was the problem because it was a real spike probably a difference of 10 degrees c from the day before. its cooled down again today

Strawberries! is it possible to have too much light?

Ok so my strawberry plants had been doing really well even had a few red fruits on them but I was out all day (it was roasting!) and came home to find a few of my plants wilting the ones out the back in the shade seem to be ok but the ones in the front getting all the light looked awful (they were fine this morning!)

so is it possible that they have had too much light? am I doing something wrong? the soil was really dry despite me watering them yesterday, I have watered them again and put one out the back and a few in the shed with the door open it also had a window so there is some light!

Haha I was suggesting that to my brother in law a few weeks back he claimed there's not alot of money in it cause people dont understand the costs involved. I was say that with all the gardening programmes lots of people would like to get into gardening but dont have a clue how to go about starting so for someone to come in and set it up for them and give some pointers

I think that its all fair and well to follow your dreams but can you make a living out of it?

maybe an option would be to go part time and see how that goes. Of course its a big step but its a step plenty of other people take. Or look into a job in a gardening nursery or something.

Also what sort of gardening do you want to do? my brother in law is a gardener and he makes a living out of grass and hedge cuts but obviously you need the outlay to buy the tools.

At the end of the day if you can afford to give it a go why not! maybe speak to your work about a career break, or some unpaid holiday to see how it goes.

I know a girl who started off making clothes in her spare room who has just opened a shop so it can work
