Sweet corn

The Kernels on my sweet corn are still white although the tassles are dark brown. Will they turn yellow if left longer or has the lack of sunshine during the summer stopped them ripening. Does them being white stop them tasting sweet.?

Carrot bed

I have never had success with carrots in beds and now grow them in tubs where  I get good results. They are easy to protect from carrot fly as well. This year I had excellent results leaving a tub in the greenhouse where they were started earlier that would have been possible sowing out side.

Lokelani, I would say that you have done every thing right except to have them in an unheated greenhouse so early. The night time temps are too low so early in the year. I put mine in one mid to late April depending how the temperture is. May be yours dont like going on holidays.

When did you all sow your seeds? I sowed mine in February and put them in a heated propagator until germinated. Then brought them on on a window sill until the temp in my unheated greenhouse was constantly above seven degrees and then put them in there. I have now got plants with plenty of fruit on and have been pulling ripe ones for a week. I live in East Yorkshire and the weather has been as bad here as everywhere else.

Courgette Help

I would think the main concern with growing them in the greenhouse would be watering especially in pots. I grow mine outside in pots and they take a lot of water in sunny weather. ( Not this year of course ) Up to now I have had 3 courgettes off four plants but every thing is slow.

Let it grow to 4 - 5" as previously said. You will then get a good follow on crop if you keep doing that.

Tomatoes not setting fruit

Try spraying the flowers with water either in the morning or evening. This helps the fruit to set.

Leeks

One way to feed leeks is to put some chiken pellet manure in the bottom of the hole when planting. As they are hungry plants this gives them all they need.

Possible to sow more peas and beans
