Thanks for your comments

@warthog - ooh green tomato jam, recipe please!

@yolande 2 - thanks for that, but I hope two hours of simmering constitutes cooking!

@oldchippy - I love seeing those green potato fruits, even though they're poisonous!

Thanks for all your comments, and thanks for posting such lovely photos, Gary! The last photo is of a ringlet butterfly, which apparently does quite well in wet summers, due to its caterpillars' food plant - grass. Don't forget to log your sitings at http://www.bigbutterflycount.org/.

Hi weejenny, I made my pond using an old tin bath. It's tiny, but is planted with native pond plants and is a hit with the frogs.

Talkback: Dung-flies and rat-tailed maggots

@Excitable boy I get out plenty thank you! What can I say, I just love the critters!

@Katie Blue they could well be dung beetle larvae. They're absolutely harmless to your plants and help break down the manure. Also food for bats. A good thing!

Hi all, am happy to report that I finally put my tomatoes, chillies and aubergines out last week and yesterday found LOADS of hoverfly larvae munching all the aphids. Hope this weather lasts!

Talkback: Leaf-cutter bees

Saw my first leaf-cutter only a couple of weeks ago Richard. Didn't get a chance to look at its underside... Kate
