There are several things that you could try depending on your budget, a few brightly painted pots with evergreen plants or you could buy terracotta pots and plant them up with cheerful winter bedding.

The key to designing in a small garden is to fill it with lots of similar plants rather than a few different plants.

Your best bet would be small terracotta pots of herbs, you would be able to pick these up very economically the week before the wedding and they would travel quite happily. They would also make nice mementos for guests or the bride and groom.

Growing for a May wedding is notouriously difficult as a cold or warm April drastically affects your timing and you really need to grow three times as many as you need. You may find plugs of violas nearer the time .

planting a raised flower bed

@ilovemonty not a raised bed but a square bed, I have gone for 3 layers, in the front I have evergreens, a hebe and some Erysimum 'Bowles's Mauve. The second layer is seasonal flowers in the photo it is Dahlias but now it has daffodils. In the third layer I have climbers the photo shows sweet peas but I am hoping to take a cutting of an evergreen clematis 'Freckles'.

As you can spot it has a red and pink theme.
