I would also go with gerbera for the first flower.

The chrysanths I bought last year that were white, went a pale pink after a couple of weeks, I assumed because they were artificially forced that somehow they had shaded them to change the colour.

Sort your soil first. I have just bought 3 bags of well rotted horse manure @ £1.20 each.  My soil is already looking better.

Still raining, I was going to walk to the polling station will need wellies, mac and brolly.

KG I find lobelias one of those odd plants, slightly old school until you see them on mass, then lovely.

This will depend to some extent on the seeds, some hardy annuals will be happy to go out to the green house now, if you have small tender seedlings they may need a few more weeks of protection. What you do not want to  do is give them a shock as this will set them back.
