Hi Obelixx. It'slovely and sunny here in w Manchester and my basil (sown on Sunday) is germinating!!

However, I'm getting really worried about the snow forecast for tomorrow and Saturday. I am driving to my daughter's in Birmingham tomorrow and from there to Bolsover (near Chesterfield) on Saturday for a watercolour workshop. Hope the snow doesn't stop us going as it's been booked for a while. Maybe we need to take a douvet, flask and shovel.

Anyone oop North started planting yet ?

Oop 'ere in west Manchester, planted in windowsill propagators yesterday - plum toms, cherry toms, bush toms, chillies, sweet peppers, aubergines, basil, coriander. I think that's all in my March section of my seed box.

Has spring arrived for you yet?

My tete a tete's and snowdrops have been flowering for a couple of weeks, purple crocus about a week. The tulips are leafing but no flower buds yet. Hydrangea leaves starting to come out. I'm west of Manchester. I think I need to start sowing my chillies, toms, aubergines - had the potting tray with compost on the kitchen worktop for the last two days!

Cosmos seeds.

Hi Lyn. I bought the 125l Verve on Sunday. Not opened it yet, but if it's as good as yours I'll be happy. I did notice that several bags of different brands/sizes had been "caught" on something before I got there  so I checked them out before buying.

I put mine in the bath and run the shower head over them - usually every 2-3 days until the aphids have gone.

Talkback: Garden birds in the snow

Posted: 27/01/2013 at 12:59

Lately we have had pigeons, blackbirds, robin, great tits, coal tits, long tailed tits, maybe blue tits. We put out bird food and scraps, and every frosty morning I go out and put fresh lukewarm water in the water dish Birdwatch weekend so far - one blackbird and one robin. I agree with oldchippy - they have gone on holiday!

Has anyone got any snow yet?

It snowed here ( west Manchester ) yesterday evening. Much of it is still here this morning ( only a light layer though ) and it's snowing now.
I feel sorry for all who have to travel in it. Luckily, I'm retired.
