Astrudle I might be wrong, I often am, but the true leaves on your Aubergine don't look like Aubergine to me  Mine are more round and shapely.

Hi OL lovely to see you  Make sure you don't have stones or pebbles in the veg bed if you are growing parsnips(and be patient) Carrots you might need to fleece early carrots to keep root fly off them, I grow in sacks the devils only jump about a foot ( I think)

I would have said widen the border and plant but how will you get to cut the conifers?

Kerria are easy to propagate by digging up a stem and re-planting. I have them growing through a three conifer 7' privacy hedge
