HELP !!!!!what about ground cover plants- does it work?

I always stuff my flowerbeds full to bursting and don't have a weed problem, apart from one bed where a buttercup ran from the edge of the lawn into a bed with a hardy geranium in it.  The leaves looked very geraniumish so I didn't spot it until it had got established.  There are generally no bare patches of earth for weed seeds to grow in.  My lawn is a different matter because the grass stops growing in summer when it dries out and then seeds can get in.

Sometimes ground cover plants can become a problem in themselves.  I have a well behaved low growing campanula when does its job perfectly.  My father has got a rampant campanula which shoots out all over the place and tries to smother the roses.

May In Your Garden

Lovely garden photo's.  My garden is suffering from the same absentee gardener issue as Geoff.  I put in some graft today to whip it a bit more into shape but hedge still looks a mess.

Yes Geoff, I managed to spend only 2 hours at Dubai this week (not 24).  Various members of my family offered to text me at Dubai to make sure I was still awake.

So sorry to hear about the sad chook news.  Poor babies.  Actually a man at work who keeps chickens was telling me what happened to one of his after a fox attack.  The fox didn't actually kill it so they nursed it back to health, after which it turned into a cockrell.  That sounds very odd to me but he is one of those earnest types not given to joking.

Scented flowers

I have got a lovely honeysuckle in my garden.  The flowers are quite small but they smell fantastic.  I layered the original plant and now have its offspring in all corners, even growing up the washing line post.

Suggestions for a bit of privacy...

Roses sound like a good idea.  Across the road from me there is a hedge of Rosa Rugosa and it looks lovely.  The scent would be appreciated by you and the walkers.

I'm back too!  Probably not as tanned as Geoff.  So glad to have returned to this lovely weather.  My aussie guests are very impressed with the sunshine.  I had to go back to work yesterday but they cooked me nice dinners yesterday and today.  It is lovely to come home to somebody cooking dinner - my mum used to tell me that I needed a wife!!

My peas, carrots, radishes and beetroot are doing terribly this year.  I came home to find that all had been completely eaten by snails.  Last evening I went out on a snail hunt and picked 20 out of one trough alone.

Actually, I just checked on the internet and it says that you can chop the top off and it will produce new leaves.  Interestingly enough, it also says that they are sensitive to fluoride so you may want to be careful if you live in an area with fluoride in the tap water.

Mine is in the biggest pot that I want to use and it tries to push itself out of the pot. Every now and then I tip it out of the pot, cut off some roots and repot it with fresh compost.  It doesn't appear to mind.

I agree that it looks like Dracaena marginata (dragon tree).  I've had one for years in my conservatory.  It is normal for the leaves at the bottom to drop off because that is how the trunk grows.  You get the same thing with most palms, which is why they get that curious pattern on the trunk.  Mine has three stems so the top must have been cut off at some point before I got it.  Perhaps that will happen to yours?
