Tiny white insects in greenhouse

Posted: 24/05/2014 at 10:22

I have noticed for a few weeks now I have tiny white insects in the greenhouse.  They are on the plants and on the soil around the base of the plants.  They are now on soil around my tomato plants.  Any ideas what is causing this and what can I do to get rid of them.

I have been to Chelsea and have to say I absolutely love every minute of it.  We took a picnic basket and we sat on the grassed area and listened to a jazz band playing in the bandstand (we were very lucky with the weather) .  I am a huge Alan fan and was lucky to see him and get a photo of him.  It is not the same without him.  Am hoping to go again next year and my niece who is 10 years old wants to come with us.  She is so into gardening it is great to see.

Chicky - I love your wisteria & David Spikes your garden is beautiful.  It amazes me how we all have more or less the same plants and yet no garden is the same.  They are all beautiful.

Off to do a little housework grrr   & then get out into the garden to enjoy this beautiful sunshine.

Hi Winterson  - my wisteria on my pergola is called Lavender Lace - it has been in for 5 years - I prune in Jan and July/Aug time - once you get your basic framework you just cut back the side shoots which are what produce the flowers. I am a bit of a tidy gardener and I do keep cutting back the long wispy bits .  I find they look untidy so I just snip them off,  hasn't done any harm as you can see so will keep doing it.

Star Gaze Lily - my rose is called Munstead Wood.  It is amazing, the scent is very strong.  Not one for the bees, I know, but I look after them as well.  This rose is just for me.  x

Dovefromabove, just checked settings and it is set to ON.  Very strange I must say.  I used to get them so don't know what could have changed it.  I haven't done anything with my settings.

Thank you.  It is my dream garden I must say, I just love being out there all the time, which is where I am off to now.  Just got back from local garden centre to buy more compost and now to spend a lovely afternoon in the sun - what more can a girl ask for.

Easily pleased us gardeners wouldn't you say.

I used to always get an email to say I've had a response.  Even though I've got the box ticked to email me.  Any ideas ??

Thank you everyone for your kind comments.  Yes Fairygirl, it is a water feature.  My hubby built it, it is just an ordinary large terracotta pot with the hole plugged and sealed and a pump inside with cobbles and a few plants in.  Took a while to find the wall spout but finally found one in my local nursery and just had to drill the hole for water pipe to go.  I would love a pond really, maybe next year, have to go on my list of projects for hubby to do which he doesn't know about !!! x

This rose is beautiful and is a continuous repeat flowering all through summer.  It has an amazing scent.  I know it is not a bee friendly rose but I do have lots of those as well and plenty of other bee friendly plants.  But this one I just had to have.  I love it.
