What would survive in my mini greenhouse at the moment

Posted: 26/02/2014 at 15:08

I only have a mini plastic greenhouse but grow pelargonium and fuchsia cuttings  each year in the greenhouse.  I wrap the inside of the greenhouse in garden fleece and though I do lose some cuttings a lot do survive.  Wilco's are reasonable plants and at the moment I have two Dicentra and a hardy geranium in pots at the bottom of the greenhouse so I am sure that your plants will be fine.  Good luck.

Sorry to be so long in getting back, but thanks for the info.  I was thinking of getting rid of it but I might hang on and see what happens.

Hi, can anyone advise on this please.  Three years ago I grew a clematis from seed.  Unfortunately, I've forgotten the name of it and misplaced the seed packet, but I had success with one seed and it is now in a pot in the garden looking quite healthy.  The problem is it hasn't flowered.  Do clematis take their time to flower?

Thanks for your advice BobThe Gardener I will try it with a wash about December.  I had been advised to take off the infected leaves but that would mean denuding nearly half the tree.  Hopefully the fruit will be ok as this was the best year for blossom yet.

I have had a dwarf pear tree planted in a large tub for three years.  Each year it has what looks like scale insect on the leaves and the leaves end up dying.  This year I have sprayed the leaves with Bug Clear when the leaves started to appear and then again when they were fully out but I still have this infestation and it seems to start at the top and be working its way down the tree.  The tree seems healthy with plenty of flowers and now the pears are beginning to form, but what can I do to stop this happening to the leaves and will it damage the tree at all?  I would very much appreciate some help.

Hi Poly-anthus, You're right they are yukkie but I'm lucky my hubby cleans them out for me, but if I had to do it myself I think I would as they do keep the slugs/snails of the plants,

I use slug trap from Poundland part filled with beer and place them round the garden.  I know family and friends who go round the garden collecting them by hand but the thought of picking up a slug turns my stomach.

Fruit in pots

Just before Christmas last year, I asked if anyone had overwintered rhubarb in a pot and if so could anybody give advice on the best way to do it.  I had several replies and one or two asked me to let them know if I succeeded.  Well I am pleased to say that my rhubarb is alive and well and I am looking forward to picking it in the Autumn.  For some reason I have lost all my threads so am having to start again, but wanted to tell those who were interested that I did manage to keep the rhubarb going (not sure how though) but I was so pleased to see the new shoots.

I seem to have lost all my threads, can anyone tell me if theyclear automatically.  Anyway last year I asked if anybody had grown rhubarb in pots and if so what was the best way to keep it going through the winter.  A lot of you were interested and asked to know if I managed to keep it going.  I was so pleased this morning, I was checking on the pots and there was the first sign of the rhubarb coming through. After the winter we have had I thought I would lose it.  Can't wait for the rhubarb crumbles etc.

Many thanks to you all for the advice.  After reading it all I think I maybe took them too late end of September/October and then put them straight into a cold frame, not realising they need bottom heat.  Maybe I'll try again this year but a bit earlier and try and provide some heat.
