Organic weedkiller?

Posted: 02/06/2015 at 09:13

Many thanks to everyone your replies were very helpful.  Will look for the high energy no mess bird seed but must admit I thought organic would be a safe option if there was such a thing.  Again many thanks.

Organic weedkiller?

Hi, Can anyone tell me if there is an organic weedkiller?  I have a bird feeder which is stood in gravel and the seeds sprout faster than I can weed them out.  I use the organic slug pellets but have been unable to find any weedkiller in the garden centres.  I don't want to harm the birds by using ordinary weedkiller but neither do I want the grass growing  between the gravel, so I would very much  appreciate any help.

Many thanks to you all for your advice.  I think I will leave it till the spring and then see if I can get a bricklayer to give me a quote.

Problem

I have a raised bed made of bricks.  It is about 2'6" high and was in the garden when I moved in some  25 years ago. Some of the bricks are beginning to crumble and I was wondering if there was something I could do that wouldn't involve knocking the bed down as I like the idea of it and it is planted up with alpine plants which I would be hard put to put anywhere else.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have looked on the internet and I seem to think it is more like sulphur tuft.  Is this as hard as honey fungus to get rid of?

Sorry, when I saw it I cleared away into the bin (not the compost bin) but it was long in shape and the top was like a thin bell shape.

Three years ago we chopped down an old apple tree in our garden but did not dig out the roots.  Now we have what I thing is honey fungus (honey coloured mushrooms)growing out of the ground at the bottom of the stump.  I have heard this is hard to get rid of, is this true?  Would appreciate any help.

What would survive in my mini greenhouse at the moment

Posted: 26/02/2014 at 15:08

I only have a mini plastic greenhouse but grow pelargonium and fuchsia cuttings  each year in the greenhouse.  I wrap the inside of the greenhouse in garden fleece and though I do lose some cuttings a lot do survive.  Wilco's are reasonable plants and at the moment I have two Dicentra and a hardy geranium in pots at the bottom of the greenhouse so I am sure that your plants will be fine.  Good luck.
