Mildew on Clematis

Many thanks to you all for the help.  I shall try the organic solution and certainly look at the web site for fertilizers.  Hopefully next year will be much better.

Mildew on Clematis

Thanks Bookertoo.  There were plants around it but I have cleared them out as they were getting far too big and not flowering.  Perhaps I will leave space around it and see what happens.  Trouble is when I have spare soil I must put a plant or plants in it. Have given it tomatoe feed a couple times but perhaps chicken pellets would be better (have never used them but have read about them).

I also have not seen anything about this programme.  Is it on now or one to look forward to?

Ant Problem!

Thanks Christopher2, didn't realise ants ate aphids, so they are not entirely bad, just a nuisance in large numbers.

Grew Cosmos for the first time this year (from plug plants) and they are lovely.  Can't wait to grow them next year, maybe from seed.

Ant Problem!

Hi Rose Ann, There seem to be a lot of ants this year.  I don't have any lawn only gravel, but the  pavers and drive seem to have plenty of ants on them.  Several plants such as shasta daisies are crawling in them.  After dead-heading I find I have to brush them off my hands.  Like you I'ved tried Nipon which usually works, but this year must be ideal for ants with there being so many.

Mildew on Clematis

Does anyone have aproblem with mildew on clematis.  It is  one called Durandii and it flowers really well every year but also suffers with mildew.  Are there any solutions for this.(The plant is lovely and I've had it about six years.)  Have been trying to take cuttings (without success) just in case.

Talkback: How to take rose cuttings

Last autumn I planted two rose twigs not really expecting them to do anything.  I just pushed them into the garden soil.  One I lost and the other started getting new leaves.  With changing the garden round I decided to put the surving twig in a pot and it is surprisingly doing well.  I have just read Paul N's note on the right way to grow rose cuttings and am definitely going to try it.  It sounds more foolproof than the way I did it.  Many thanks

clematis leaves trouble

Hi, I have a similar problem with a clematis named Durandii and have been thinking that it must be mildew.  This clematis is growing in the ground up a trellis on a fence.  I have other clematis but these are in pots and touch wood do not seem to  be effected.  The Durandii  has suffered this problem for about three years and apart from this looks very healthy and flowers well.  Does anyone know what I can do?
