Keeping cosmos

Posted: 21/08/2012 at 19:02

Hi, Is  it possible to keep Cosmos from year to year or is it purely an annual.  Have grown them for the first time this year and would love to keep them for next year, but wonder if it is best to start from scratch next year.

The first I knew of Beechgrove was reading Kate1123 and the rest of the posts and I watched in on IPlayer last night.  Thoroughily enjoyed it.  Very informative and I will be watching it regularly from now on.

Welcome to the brand new forum

Hi, I'm new to gardening forums and I am really enjoying the Gardeners World forum.  I've had a couple of questions answered and enjoy the friendliness of everyone.  Shall certainly be looking at the forum everyday.  Thanks.

I also watched about 10 minutes of it and changed over to football (which must be a first for me).  Like LavenderLady and everyone else I would like Gardeners World extended to an  hour or a programme that gives ideas for new plants and how to do the jobs that are probably easy but maybe not everyone finds easy, such as staking tomatoes/ runner beans.  Mine always seem to collapse.

potato sack compost

I have grown seed potatoes in bags with varying success.  The first time I was really pleased because there. were lots of delicious potatoes.  Then decided I would do some for Christmas/New Year and had none at all(think this was because the wind broke the stalks)  This year the crop was smaller but the potatoes again were lovely.   I have always put the used soil on the garden and started with fresh.  Am now wondering if the small amount of potatoes is worth the effort.

Mildew on Clematis

Many thanks to you all for the help.  I shall try the organic solution and certainly look at the web site for fertilizers.  Hopefully next year will be much better.

Thanks Bookertoo.  There were plants around it but I have cleared them out as they were getting far too big and not flowering.  Perhaps I will leave space around it and see what happens.  Trouble is when I have spare soil I must put a plant or plants in it. Have given it tomatoe feed a couple times but perhaps chicken pellets would be better (have never used them but have read about them).

I also have not seen anything about this programme.  Is it on now or one to look forward to?

Ant Problem!

Thanks Christopher2, didn't realise ants ate aphids, so they are not entirely bad, just a nuisance in large numbers.

Grew Cosmos for the first time this year (from plug plants) and they are lovely.  Can't wait to grow them next year, maybe from seed.
