How do I encourage vigorous roots?

What are you talking about? -your question is there

And no there isnt some magic fertilizer despite the claims-they all do a similar job-you have to wait-not sure exactly what you are expecting-if you buy correct compost and feed correctly a plant will grow-but only to its limitations.

I have 3 tomato plants shirley, gardeners delight, and alcante, but I dont know which to pinch out and which to leave.

You just remove the side shoots on those varieties-pinch out the top when 4/6 trusses are set-some time away yet

Two weeks ago I had 24 geranium plugs they have been outside for the last week in a  2in tray which is full of water which I mix with planet food, they are picking up nicely with at least a inch growth in the last five days, stood in the water plus food they seem to be thriving.

Might be thriving now-but they will die in those conditions-far too wet and too cold.

Tomato seedlings

This is my first gardening experience. Another farmer gave me an advice - to plant the seeds in a seed bed rather tan cups. The seeds sprouted after a week. It's a 3rd week now and I decided to re-pot the seedlings, since they all seem healthy, but they don't have enough space, too close to each other. I transplanted them in cups but just after the transplantation and watering they became really tired. Will they pick up or this means that the seedlings died? If so, maybe you could tell me what I might have done wrong?

p.s. I did not transplant all of the seedlings, just the first row in the seed bed. So maybe there's hope for the others

Are you writing from in the UK??
