Horsetail - Help!

Posted: 12/07/2012 at 13:23

I'm fairly sure there's a thread on this weed somewhere already, although I haven't worked out how to search the forum yet.  Have a nose round see if you can find it.

Horsetail/Marestail is as old as the hills and sounds a complete pain to deal with,  good luck with it.

Lavender Collapse - Can it be saved?

Yep, Lavenders don't live very long (and start to look ropey after about 4 or 5 years) they're easy to take cuttings from so, as said, take some cuttings now and prepare to replace the plants by spring.

Jean I came back on here to post about an annoying pink geranium type flower I pull up whenever I see it, and you've named the little bleeder. Learn something new everyday here!

I'm sure there are people here who love it (it was loved by my Mum for ages), and in the right garden it would look beautiful, but I've pulled up handfulls of the stuff for years.

Do Monarda's self seed a lot then? I have a really tall one in my garden and I absolutely love it.

What's up with my Gooseberry bush?

Fingers crossed!

Thanks for taking the time to reply, it's much appreciated.

This is the first time the leaves have been stripped, leaving only about two right at the end of one of the branches.

Think I'll just have to keep an eye on it and pick off any that I see. I've just got an allotment and it's something that will be moving from the garden there. I guess a soil change and potting it up in to something else first might be a good idea first. But do you know if the plant can still be productive next year or has it had it?

Thanks geoff. I've just been out and checked it again and it doesn't appear to have any pests on it or lavae, do the caterpillar's hide or are they nocturnal?

This has happened really quickly so I think it must be them, just can't see where they are. Could it be that the bush has been stripped and then they've departed?

It's never been a partiularly high yielding little thing so I haven't been particularly bothered that yet again it has few fruit on it. Like most things I had just put it down to all the wet cold weather we're graced with on our beautiful little island, however today I've had a closer look and most of the leaves have been stripped off. leaving very few fruit on spindley sticks.

Any thoughts on what pest does this?

Going out after dark has greatly increased the number of slimey creatures, now residing in the big garden in the sky, for me. You'll also get to see which plants they're after.

I also use the friendly pellets in early spring.

Insomnia I find that one especially annoying as it folds down immediately after you've clicked it off, covering almost every forum function.

There should be adverts to finance the site but they shouldn't interfere with how the site works.
