Barnsley Lavatera

Posted: 04/06/2012 at 12:44

I have just bought a barnsley lavatera and would like to keep it on my patio.  The question is, can I keep it in a pot? will it thrive in this environment?

Last year I bought 3  small geraniums and put them on my south facing window seat where they put on tremendous growth but never flowered.  I hard pruned them back in march this year as they were getting leggy.  The question is, how can I promote and encourage them to flower? They have also been potted on and have already put on lots of leaf growth,

About five weeks ago I bought some golden hops from my local garden centre.  The proprieter advised me to keep the pot under cover until the weather warms up a bit before planting out.  Some new growth started to appear about two weeks ago but has now promptly died back.  Has it died? or will new growth appear shortly?  The pot has been out on warm days and in at night and is currently in my porch which has an abundance of good natural light.

Advice taken.  Decided to plant them away from the arch and up against a fence instead.

root damage

Will honeysuckle roots damage the foundations of my house? I've had to plant one directly next to my house due to the patio being close to the house and leaving me 6" of gap for planting.  I have created a 3' trench for the roots.  Is this likely to cause a problem? my alternative is to break up the patio or plant in a container.
