Help and Advice

Hi - I tried to overwinter a silver birch in it's pot and, as fidgetbones has suggested, don't do it!  Mine died a premature death!

I've still got Cosmos (pink & white) flowering plus my climbing rose.  Also got sweet peas still poppng up.  Dahlias of course as well.  Wish my strawberries would crop again - yum!  Enjoy yours!

Collecting Nasturtium seeds

Hi - mine are only just putting up leaves???

They self-sowed themselves (as they do every year) and I have loads but no flowers yet.  Does anyone else have this problem?

They are planted in my front garden that gets loads of sunshine/light and have usually done very well but I suppose the weird weather this year has confused them?

Any chance they'll still flower and produce seeds this year?

Honeysuckle whats happening?

Hi, I posted a very similar problem last week.  I was told that it was to do with feeding & watering?

If I prune it back hard this winter then maybe it will flourish again next year?

Has anyone else tackled the leaves dropping, bare stems but green tops issue by pruning it back hard?

Bare honeysuckle plant - is it dying?

Posted: 30/08/2013 at 14:11

Hi All,

I've got a honeysuckle plant that for the past two years has started dropping it's leaves very early - like over a month ago?  It has only had two white flowers this year and I wondered if it was either a very sick plant or one that was supposed to drop it's leaves?

Should I chop it back brutally - it's wound tightly round a trellis on the top of a wall so I'd have to leave the wound round bits after chopping the bottom stems?

Or do I just give up on it and plant something else where it was so that it can climb up the dead branches?

What could I plant that isn't a clematis and has flowers (abundant) all through the summer/autumn?

The honeysuckle next to it has yellow and red flowers and does very well.

Any advice gratefully received!  Thanks.

Netherfield, I'd buy a chocolate teapot!  But just to eat it not make tea in it!

Thanks for the responses - I thought it was just an advertising gimmick but as a newbie gardener I just don't know enough!!

Talkback: Ladybirds

Still no ladybirds here in Derbyshire - have seen two only. One (a yellow one) was trotting about on my car bonnet and the other (red) was traipsing up my window.

Where have they all gone?

Great to read advice about tomatoes and I'm new to it all as well. I've got two hanging baskets (courtesy of Homebase!) with Tumbling Toms in them - have had a lot of fruits so far but.....the skins are really tough.

Any tips on toms with thinner skins please?   Have fed them as I should etc.
