Looking after an orchid

Hello Lisa My instinct is that because the orchid has been repotted it may be getting too much water at this time of year.It is a lovely orchid and you have repotted it at the correct time into the right compost.If it was mine I would go really easy on the watering for a while -maybe mist the plant with some cooled boiled water rather than watering it -then hopefully when new leaves appear they will be fine. I have to confess that I have an orchid that is over 10years old and it has never been repotted but still flowers each year-it appears to thrive on neglect!

I remember Sainsburys when it was just a shop - the assistants patted the butter into an oblong shape before wrapping it up. Mum used to buy us some processed cheese  as a treat - we loved it - it was wrapped in silver foil/paper.Our local shop sold dried fruit in paper bags - it was weighed in front of you. I also remember one shop that sold biscuits loose - we loved the broken ones which were a mixture and also cheaper to buy

What veggies are you planning on growing 2013?

I have finally sorted my veg seed and plant order out

Potatoes - Marfona,Charlotte,Vivaldi,Kestrel,Picasso and Deisree.

Tomatoes - Shirley,Greensleeves,Marinda,Katiebelle,Luciebelle,Sungold,Sun Cherry Premium,Reisenstraube,Old Ivory Egg,Ferline and Kumato tomato.

Peppers -Jumbo,Tasty Yellow Grill,Mini Orange,Mini Red and grafted plants Milena(orange) and Chelsea(yellow)

Chillies - Pimento Cherry Chilli,Lila Luzi,Hot Cayenne Pepper,Friars Hat and a naughty one called Peter Pepper (google it )

Cucumbers - La Diva,Crystal Apple and grafted Fitness.

Unusaul veg I am going to try are Callaloo and Cucamelon - from the James Wong collection

Basils I will be growing are - Anton,Rubra,Thai ,African Blue,Genovese,Leaf Lettuce and Fine Verde.

You are probably bored by now - will post other veg soon

Cut Flowers for September Wedding Bouquet?

Hello Rachel I grow Salvia Evolution or Victoria in my garden and it is usually still good in September. Heliotrope is lovely - purple and scented - cherry pie.Cosmos comes in white - this year I am growing a variety called Antiquity which is a lovely muted colour. For green flowers you could try Lime green Nicotiana or Molucella.I will keep thinking

I put them in raw Becks - just chopped into pieces- about 1/2 ". I cooked the cake/pudding in an oval baking dish

An igloo is being constructed on the green. Kids are shovelling up snow onto sledges and taking it to one of the dad's who is then building.  up about 18 ins now

Your cake looks good Becks  I make jam tarts if I have any pastry left when I am making a pie

The apple cake is just a made up recipe - just a normal cake mix but with some ground almonds a few drops of almond essence and chopped up cox's apples added It smells lovely so I am looking forward to trying it
