Posted: 23/09/2012 at 11:54

Hello Julie - My Hubby made my staging out of aluminium frames and roofing batons - I am sorry but I can't remember where we bought the aluminium frames as it was years ago I am not being very helpful am I

Hello Lowenna - I do take your point about bedding plants but as I go so OTT with my front garden it is cheaper for me to grow my own bedding and tender perennials.I only have one frost free greenhouse over winter.

The only plants I didn't grow in these baskets are the CalibroachaAnyway - I love growing my own plants  - each to his own as they say

No offence taken Christopher 2 Thankyou for your confidence in me joslow

Re Perlite - as I said I am just experimenting after success with a couple of pots of Laurentia cuttings last year- when I have put Laurentia in my normal cuttings mix they have always failed  Anyway - my philosophy with cuttings is they have 2 chances and if they root and grow well I have lots more plants to play with

Yesterday I took cuttings of Tangerine Sage,Pineapple Sage,Lemon Verbena,Solanum alba,Hampton Court Plectranthus, stripey trailing Geranium,Pink single Marguerites, pink double Marguerites, furry scented Geraniums and some Centradenia

Lots of the trays of cuttings that I took a few weeks ago have now rooted

When my greenhouse is tidy I will take a pic

Hello 4711 - Poached Egg plants (Limnanthes) would be good as would herbs like Lavender Oregano,Marjoram and Thyme when they flower Bees prefer single flowers to doubles. If you have a little bit of ground to spare you could grow Sunflowers and Cosmos which bees love

Helychryssum limelight - overwinter & cuttings

Posted: 22/09/2012 at 15:37

Hello Katemac - I take cuttings every year from my Helichrysum Limelight -now is a good time  Do you have a greenhouse ? If not I am sure they would be o.k on a windowsill.I have never tried to overwinter a big plant as I just don't have the room in my greenhouse. You could wrap the pot in some bubble wrap around the pot to keep the roots warm in really cold snaps and use fleece to cover the plant. I would still suggest you take some cuttings though

This is my tray of cuttings - I am very greedy A pot of cuttings would be good

Hello Sue - My first thought was that your lovely plant could be an Abutilon of some kind but I may be wrong

Lottie - no I missed that

When things - like cake- needed sharing - one of the boys would portion it and the others would  choose first
